          | Just saw a D17 diesel. Serial # D17 240092D. Is this a late 1960? It had a narrow front and a turbo charged diesel with the tach cable unhooked. This makes me think that it was a conversion with a combine engine. Owned by a tractor scalper. Runs nice but needs a lot of tlc. Wants 2800. Can anyone give me advice on the originality of this tractor? |

          | The D17 wasn't turboed. What kind of shape are the tires in? Will he let you drive it and see if it jumps out of gear?

          | Could be a D19 engine or it has had the turbo from a D19 added. I don't believe any combines had a turbo 262. Some cotton harvesters did.

          | It's been a long time since I've seen a turbo on a D-17 diesel, but there's no way it fits under the stock hood, is there?? I think the hood had to have a bubble in it ?? |

          | The hood was cut out. It had the seat, steering wheel, and drawbar off a series 2 but the serial # of a 1959 so I am thinking it was a mechanic’s “dream”. |

Not according to Norm Swinford's book. But I believe it is possible. There are engine options in the A combine manuals not mentioned in his book.

          | I've seen a D17 with the 19 turbo on it, makes a mess out of the hood with the holes cut to make them fit. One of the guys on the Facebook sale site had a complete running D262T out of a C2 for sale.

          | The D17D used the 262.  I have absolutlely NO doubt that guys have adapted turbos from other applications to fit, and I'm CERTAIN that SOME guys have figured out how to make the hair-dryer hide under the stock tin.
 I want one.

 (sigh)  back to my cage....

          | I wish. She'd kill me... and I'd kill me too. The workshop is highest priority right now... need LOTS of liquid rock, and a little steel. Once that's done, I'll get these projects done, then mebbie take on another. ;-)
