How do I hold this PTO adapter onto the PTO output shaft of my B? The hole in the shaft on the B is really small (less than 1/4 inch). Is this just a cotter pin or something?

not trying to be a smart guy but I'd have thought a PTO pin would fit. I just checked mine, all are 1/4" or BIGGER. I'd try a big fat cotter pin, well oiled or greased..or an SS bolt/nut combo.

I'd just drill the hole out to 1/4", Its not like its pulling 200 HP, at thousands of RPM...

Thanks all. I'm new to this adapter thing and I wasn't sure how secure it had to be. I'll get a pin or bolt to go in there.

Mine uses a 1/4" bolt. Roll pin should work as well. Just make sure it's good and snug. AaronSEIA

Like the guys said....you just have to hold it "on", it's not transmitting power.

You need to keep the telescoping shaft well lubed, because when it slides in and out it pushes and pulls on that adaptor, which will wear the pin holding it on.

The hardest time for that retaining pin is when the implement swings to the side and compresses the sliding joint in the PTO shaft between the U joints as far as it will go then it pushes on that pin and can shear it. It is important that the PTO shaft between the U joints can get short enough for that condition without pushing on the retaining pin. If its too long it can break the tractor's PTO shaft or the tractor end U joint.

when using a drawbar pulled implement you may need to use the sae hitch as the pto extension could cause binding as said previously. I have an over running coupler on my c and its too long to run my grinder when hitched to oe drawbar

Get an extension adapter that has a quick coupler end on it like what is on your PTO Shaft end. Be safe...Dale

Your tractor's operator manual (OM) should contain any pto advise. But sometimes an OM isn't available or some older tractor's OM did not advise much? If it helps, here is a weblink that gives ballpark dimensions for proper tractor pto / drawbar setups. https://articles.extension.org/sites/default/files/English%20Task%20Sheets%20Group%206.pdf" rel="nofollow - https://articles.extension.org/sites/default/files/English%20Task%20Sheets%20Group%206.pdf
