The lift on my CA won't go down. It raised fine. I put the valve in the lower position and pushed hard enough to lift my feet off the ground and it won't drop and I weigh about 220. I'm assuming I have a valve stuck. Any thoughts?

it took me 3 tries to get ALL the 'crud' outta the pump on my CA. stuff I remember 1) have a well lit bench 2)clean everything 3 times, maybe 4 3) have a good blowup of the pump 4) take pictures before and during, just in case 5) if one of them check balls 'takes a walkabout', anything less than 2 hrs to find it is GOOD ! That's what I was afraid of. Thanks Jay. BTW, that was fast. Barely 4 minutes to get an answer

You might try turning the screw on the end of the pump closest to the tractor rear end. That may move the valve train and perhaps allow the arms to go down. Don't put too much pressure on it but it may work. Other than that listen closely to what is said above. I know If I can open them up and clean them good you can. If you still have a gasket dam in the tractor you may just have to remove the oil from the PTO - there is a drain plug at the bottom and one on the bottom of the hyd pump. Try them first. Good Luck! I had the same issue and did what Jay suggests. Here is a good disassembly of the pump. Helped me immensely. http://www.allischalmers.com/forum/ca-hydraulic-pump_topic28404.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.allischalmers.com/forum/ca-hydraulic-pump_topic28404.html

It's actually NOT a bad job, kinda pleasent really. just be sure to remove the oil from the sump FIRST.odds are real good it's full of sludge, maybe 40-50 YEARS worth.... once the pumps off and sitting in a tub of degreaser(tall coffee can?),get as much of the sump sludged outta there ! when you're bored of that, go to the well lit, totally clean bench and tear down the pump. be neat and tidy and it'll be easy. if you get bored of that, go back to cleaning the sump again, when you 'think' it's good enough, spray some brake cleaner in there..hmm..still got 'sludge' in there...it's one of those cleaner -is-better deals,so spend the time, done right you won't be in there for another 30-40 years. I used a 1/2" paint brush ,cut the bristles to only3/4" to clean the crud off the pump parts with some kind of 'dunk' degreaser, then varsol, dry off with old white socks. when the socks stay white you know the parts are clean ! The odds are real good the 40-50 years of sludge has finally 'caked' onto parts and plugged up holes 'here and there'.After all it's not like anyone 'cleans and refills' it every year.... Patience is the key. Jay
