I just noticed some planter plates hanging on wall when I came home from church and put pickup in shed. I just thought how many years the same type of planter plates were used before some one came up with something different. May have been AC with air planter. MACK Sorry to hijack your post.

I cant remember on the JD plates but I know you do on the AC plates. If the JD plates are thick as the bean plates you wont need them. I don’t know about the sunflowers never raised them but I think AC made plates for about everything but finding them might be a *$#@!

Not sure but when I planted sunflower with my old JD planter there was a filler ring as the plates were very thin.

I use Lustran plates for sunflowers in my JD 494 planter. I can’t remember the number but the plate I use doesn’t use a filler plate under it. If it goes above zero outside in the next few days I’ll try to make it out to the planter and see what number the plates are.

if you use the Lustran plates made for JD, in your AC planter, you will need an adapter that goes in the center of the JD plates, also made by lustran.

I was just thinking iv got a boat load of plastic jd corn plates. I was thinking maybe I could cut out the slots in one to fit sunflower seeds. What I was thinking was put sunflower in one box and sorghum on the other or maybe millet.

The Lustrans I use aren’t a dedicated “sunflower” plate. They’re a corn plate that the sunflower seed I use just happen to fit in. If your planting for food/wildlife plots this works just fine. It’s different if your planting with plant population and yields in mind. A few years back I mixed some seed corn and sunflower seed in the same planter box and ran them thru the same plate, worked just fine and the deer didn’t seem to care!

And wild life is part of it, the other part is my wife wanting a sunflower back ground for her and her friend to use for pictures.
