I am inframng a 210 right now.  I did this one some years ago and unfortunately it had a bad incident.  I have always replaced the connecting rod bolts on the 426 cu in engines.  When I just priced them from my AGCO dealer  I was quoted $623 for the 12 of them.  Seems to me that is ridiculous price.  Does any one have the ARP number for them?  Or know a dealer that will sell them for a reasonable price??

last I priced they were around 30 for a pair for one rod. Agco could have nearly quadrupled the price, but something doesn't sound right. I can check with my agco buddy!

You can't buy the exact same bolt from arp. Under contract with agco. You will be fine with the standard arp 8740 bolts. They are 170,000 psi clamping force at like 60 ft lbs and like 200,000 at 80ft lbs. I think you go like 85 ftlbs on the agco bolts.

If you have one to pattern off of you can have arp custom build them but dont tell them what they are for (426 allis)

agco number is 70277489, and come in pairs for one rod, and include the bulletin. I'll find out current price. I see the op is in Canada, so that may affect the price.

Yes that is the correct part number.  I can't imagine there being that much difference between your price and ours here.  They want 4618.65 for the overhaul kit, and they are on back order, lol.  aftermarket for sure is where I will get the overhaul kit from, most likely in your country as well.  A hour drive gets me into Michigan from my house, saves a lot on some parts, not on some others.

should be less than $30 per pair of bolts......$180 per engine.

More than a few times I have seen AGCO prices do this n some things in Canada.  Sometimes they correct it sometimes they don't.  I have learned to always shop around with them.  I have also bought many John Deere parts for much less in The Unite States than in Canada.

my buddy just got back to me, AGCO list is $36/pair, but sold in sets of 6 pair, so $216 for a set for one engine. My buddy is also a howards/reliance dealer.

The last rod bolts that I bought from Agco for a 426 engine were stamped ARP. If I remember correctly, Big Bock Chevys were very close to the same.

when my mechanic talked to ARP about my new bolts, the guy on the other end had no info and no listing for AC 426 rod bolts. They do have ARP stamped in them. This was in 09.

A while ago I replaced the rod bearings in a 426, no noise just preventative measure.  I used the agco bolts and federal mogul bearings.  Like the instructions say you have to turn the rod/piston 180 degrees.  3 of them were pretty easy, 2 took a little work, but 1 was a bear to get turned.  It seemed to hit on everything before it would go all the way around.  Made a couple of long rods with welded ends on to push the piston/rod up and really helped pulling it back down.  I put clear vinyl tubing on them to keep from scratching the crank.

Still going strong.

These bolts will work strength wise but the true "rod bolts" have a stepped shoulder and most of the bolt is smaller diameter than 7/16". It steps back out at the threads.
This will affect rod weight balancing.
It might vibrate alittle more but would probably run fine.

How would those bolts affect rod balance?

The rod bolts along with the big end of the connecting rods and the crankshaft rod section is way off center of the axis of the crankshaft spinning and so make it unbalanced. Speedy cranks often have counter balance fixed weights to counter the off center weight of the crank and rod parts, but its not adjustable to account for heavier or lighter connecting rod bolts. Slow speed tractor engines often don't have individual cylinder counter weights on the crankshaft.
