I have a couple that the hex on the out side is stripped. The 12 point on the arp nuts would be easier to get a wrench on

Pretty convoluted explanation for a "socket". LOL. Maybe the author of that had never used a socket or the ratcheting or non ratcheting handle to drive it. The 12 pt fasteners are nice. Fairly expensive and probably no need for them here.
