A 2000 is a great plow but an Oliver will pull even easier and throw a level field like no other plow........ well that's my opinion anyhow.
Hmmmm BTW, not trying to take anything away from the post. A 2000 is still a great plow and that 185 makes it just that much better.

I've never plowed with an Oliver bigger than a 2 bottom, but based on my experiences with it and from what I've heard other guys say about the big ones, I couldn't agree with you more! Never heard a bad comment on an Oliver plow.

That is an AWESOME looking rig!! Out of curiosity, how loud is that pipe? I am contemplating doing something similar to the XT

It is rediculously loud, you can't run it without ear protection. I am seriously considering taking it back off and putting the muffler back on. A xt with a turbo and straight pipes is much quieter compared to my 185.

Always heard nothing but praise for an Oliver. Very long time ago when we had "big tractor" problems, dad got a 3-14 oliver trailer plow so the smaller tractor could pull it. But things got fixed and we have NEVER pulled it. I got a Ford last fall, which some said was an Oliver design. I was excited to give it a try. Well, you can't get parts for it, and the hitch is sprung, so no joy. I really only bought it for the coulters though, so getting 3 like new coulters and one used one for $125 wasn't a bad deal.

Great pictures. Looks like you have a nice tractor and plow. I like the dual too. I found a set of duals for my 185, but haven't tried putting them on yet.

Certain model Ford plows were an Oliver design.....they were an OLIVER plow painted blue !!

Thanks for your thoughts on the straight pipe. Everyone keeps talking the Oliver plow, but IMO,the WHITE predecessor (508), would be hard to beat and their parts should be easier to obtain than ALLIS plows?

Good looking tractor and plow. Looks like you're doing a good job to me. Nice flat field and good soil too. I don't blame you about the muffler, I hate a loud tractor, motorcycle, car, or anything else as far as that goes.

Ranse you definitely would not like an XT lol. A beautiful sound to me from the 301 turbo coming out that straight pipe....just like my Harley. Some like them quiet, others like the sound of sweet music.

Great pictures! Thanks! You old "plow operators" like me know that there's nothing like the smell of freshly plowed soil. I've told other people this, and they look at me like I'm crazy?!? And if your lights work, plowing after dark with that cherry red WD-45 muffler ... kinda like a little piece of heaven on earth.

Thanks for the pictures. You are doing a beautiful job with beautiful machinery.Takes me back to 1992 when I got the opportunity to start my own part time operation with a 180 diesel and a 4 bottom Ford plow with a packer. That 180 turned me on to Allis, it was all I could afford at the time and was a great tractor. I have been no tilling for a while now really miss the smell of the fresh soil as others have mentioned.

AC720Man, if there is on way to quieten an XT down then you are probably right. We had a guy in are bass club that had a Mercury outboard on his boat so loud I don't see how he ever caught a fish. Harleys make a wonderful sound, I can't understand why most people ruin it by installing loud pipes. It ain't music to me, but like you said, that's the difference in people.

A turbo does muffle a lot of noise so you can straight pipe a turbo engine but not a NA engine. Now you will just have to find an xt to fit your pipe.

Nice pics, love the smell of newly plowed ground, use to be able to hear
the stalks crush under the plow but can't hear it anymore... to much
straight pipe and one cab that just pounded the ear drums. Wore out my 4X16
AC plow behind a 190XT and needed shares and land-sides and moldboards... So hesitantly, I
hooked up my 565 Oliver 5X16 hydraulic reset plow and went to the field
and I hardly knew the 5th bottom was back there... Have a 2000 plow
with accumulator but needs some luv and hoses before that hits the
field. Lot of plows came with that high speed mold-board and I really
liked the longer sweeping mb like the raydex plows had. Been told
some models of Ford plows were Melroe plows painted... and the Melroes
up here were noted to pull hard. and can find them sitting along side
the fencelines in the weeds. My guess is that some of them probably
were not right or the operators didn't get them adjusted just right...
You know, fine tuned... And the old D17 diesel got a straight pipe when the muffler went bad, Needed earplugs and earmuffs when working that girl hard, was far worse than the 190 gas was with a short straight pipe.

My brothers XT had a cab and muffler on it when he bought it. Quiet as a mouse. He put a short straight pipe on it but went back to the muffler. Short pipe to get it in his building made it too loud. Nice looking 185 and plow. I love working up fresh ground.
