So I just picked up a number 7 sickle bar mower this weekend. Does anybody know if a number 7 sickle bar mower requires a counter balance spring bracket to mount to a D14? I know that everybody always said it's needed to mount to a WD or a D17, I just didn't know if it was required for all tractors. If anybody has pictures of one mounted on a D14, that'd be very helpful.

Also, does anybody know where I can find any manuals for the number 7? I can't seem to find any online.

I found one for my brothers D 14. He said it made a big difference. As I understand, really needed on any model. It helps balance the mower with the
sickle down in cutting location. Den

Den, That's kind of what I thought. I haven't had a chance to mount it to the tractor yet but when I was unloading it, I noticed that gearbox was pretty heavy.

Gary, I saw your link but the book was sold. That would be the perfect book. I did some looking around on that sellers website and they didn't have another one. I guess I'll just have to wait for one to pop up again.

Gary, another one just popped up on Ebay. Looks like I'll be buying that one. Thanks for the original link though!

Is this the one.

It is an Allis original, looks in real nice shape.

This is the best one to get, both Operations and Parts Illust.

Good luck

Good ole e-bay.  If you wait long enough they have everything.
Yes, I second the motion that you need the balance spring on the #7 mower.
I know I had a devil of a time jury rigging one on a D-12
Good Luck!
