Subject: UPDATE!!! Posting Pics on OUR SERVERS
Date Posted: 28 Oct 2017 at 7:25am
I have changed the 'Subject' (Hopefully) from "Flickr to REPLACE Photo Bucket" to Posting Pics on OUR SERVERS to get more people involved and up to date. We MIGHT need some pledges from members to accomplish this, so will YOU HELP??!!??
Just saw Armand's thread on his mower and him telling about Flickr. Anyone have experience with Flickr? We're all sick of Photo Bucket and all the problems we've had with it. ANY help is greatly appreciated by ALL the users on here.

I had most of my photo links on my website to Photo Bucket. I had used Flickr early on so went back to them. After moving all of my photos I find it easier to use than PB Always had problems downloading photos to PB
Ted, I'd be glad to help if you decide to go with Flickr.

I have a lot of pictures on Flickr also and like the AC group over there, Ross does a great job. I haven't figured out how to get the pictures to show up over here, every time I try it, it just comes up as a link. Time for Google!

Be very wary of Flickr, too. They did changes there about six months ago and locked a lot of their users out, including me. I consider they have stolen over 9000 of my photos. I'm the Ross who was the moderator for the AC group and cannot continue in that capacity. Such a shame.

Wow, sure am sorry about the Flickr deal with you. I hope you have those pictures somewhere else, you sure have a bunch of good ones. I noticed when I submitted some pictures a while back it took a couple weeks to add them to the group but I figured you were traveling.

About that time, it was discovered that Yahoo was hacked and ALL of the accounts were compromised. Yahoo owned Flickr at the time. I wonder if that was part of you getting locked out.
Have you tried to recover your account/password?

This is a problem for me too. I tend to post a lot of pictures. Was used to photobucket and how it works. I have not been locked out yet but it may be coming. I tried Flicker last night, set it up loaded some pictures and loaded them to another tractor site as a test. I could only get the link no picture. Since I am new to it that may be I just don't know the moves yet. If you clicked the link/s it took you to the picture. Not sure how Armand loaded his picture? Not sure how I would ever go back to replace all my pictures in threads on here?? I have all my pictures on a separate hard drive. only copies on photobucket. Even on Flicker I seen something about $39.99 for some sharing feature??? I think they are going to try to hold these ransom. Big money out there. I have 4000+ pictures on Photobucket. Regards, Chris

Yes, I've tried to recover my password but I couldn't remember the answers to the questions they ask.I'm the sole user of this computer so I never used the password. Just logged in all the time. I wasn't effected by that virus as far as I can see. The lockout happened before the virus was uncovered.

Yes, that's me, easier to remember since that's my email. Don't have a clue who's in charge, I just got a note that asked to submit photo's to the group as they could not see them as easily as before. I think it would be good practice for everybody to put a watermark on any photo's you post, share or store on the internet. Places like PB and FL are all the sudden saying they own any pictures on their site so at least make them work to clean the mark or forever have your name on it.

Interesting! I know it cost money to keep all this stuff up and going. I tend to not be a contributor ($) to most of the ones I am on. The lack of photos is going to make these types of forums pretty boring! I believe there is a "dropbox" picture storage system too. Not sure how easy it is to use? I would like to just be able to add pictures direct from your computer! Some forums like this used to allow that! Was way easier! things have gotten too complicated. Regards, Chris

Dennis, I don't know how you're getting away with it, but so many of us have lost all use of PB and I am trying to get my pics off their site but it is a tedious battle.
I sent Darin a PM and asked him to look into how much it would cost to get additional servers and software so that we could post on here with no problems. I promised him that there were enough of us that would chip in to pay for this and to help others who might have problems putting pics on here. I'm not a tech or anything, but I am self taught and learn rather fast, especially watching others or finding out how something works, so I can again write up a "how to". Is everyone (or at least most of us) on board with such an idea?? Might cost us each a few $$$ originally. And of course, the semi annual gift giving that a lot of us do to keep this site rolling. Will you help?

Help me out Guys, I posted a few pictures last week by just resizing them on my PC using paint and downloading or uploading (what ever) to my post. Back some time ago I posted a few pictures using PB and found it very hard and very slow. I am very new to this so there must be something I am missing, is it the volume of photos that drive you to PB?

We'd rather see the actual photo than just a link to it. PB used to let us do that, but then held us all up for ransom to be able to see pics on the site. I don't know about others, but they want $399.33 per year from me and that just ain't gonna happen. According to their site, THEY OWN the pics after you upload them. It's outrageous what they are doing. HOW do you prove that YOU OWN the pics? Wanna go to court and spend MORE $$$$ ??

You quickly ran out of room and then had to delete some of your pics so you could post more. At that time, PB allowed us to upload pics to their site and then post them over here. SO,,,,,if you look around the site, there are a lot of pics that are missing and that is because guys deleted one (or more) to make room to post more. and PB has chopped the links to pics from us so you can't see what they are. We are losing the most important part of our forum because of this, the http://www.allischalmers.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=18&title=farm-equipment-knowledge-base" rel="nofollow - Farm Equipment -Knowledge Base where people show HOW TO DO certain aspects of a rebuild on these old machines. Without the pictures, you can't really understand what a person is doing. HOPEFULLY Darin will get this done for us and then we won't ever have to worry about losing these VERY IMPORTANT part of our forum. I hope this helps some of you understand what is at stake and what is going on.

Here is my two cents, probably only worth one.
Uploading pictures direct to here involves, resizing, naming, and uploading. When you run out of space, you delete the old ones, and your threads, I think, are ruined.
So I found Photobucket. I take a picture with my phone, and upload it to Photobucket. It is automatically resized and super easy to paste into my threads. MUCH faster and easier.
Then they ads got outrageous, and one day, my pictures were no longer available.
So, I slid over to vgy.me. I now take a picture with my phone, hook my phone to the laptop, and transfer them to a flash drive. That way I always have a copy from now on. Resize them with Paint, upload them to vgy.me, and paste them in my post. A little more work, but manageable.
I have also been downloading my pictures back from Photobucket and putting on the flash drive. I have fixed a few posts, and plan on fixing more over the winter.
I fully agree with Ted, especially with that knowledge based section, but all topics in general, the pictures make the story. This hobby is disappearing fast, not too many people are interested in this old stuff anymore. For those of us that are, we need all the help and information we can get, cause let's face it, as old timers pass on, so goes there knowledge, unless it's chronicled somewhere. Like here.
That last part was rather morbid, but also the truth.
At any rate, what I'm trying to say, is I would gladly kick in a little if we had an easy safe way to upload, resize, and store pictures on here.

Loooong ago, I had tractorpics.com. It worked pretty much like PB but was free. It turned into such a maintenance issue to keep the porn off and PB was available free too. So I gave it up. The domain is gone, so I would have to use another, but what would you pay per year to use?

Cost is only part of the equation, space, monitoring etc. are other issues. You can use this site for your photo's but once it is full you either stop posting pictures or delete old ones to make room to which deletes the pictures on the related post. I had bunches of pictures on PB but once the rumors of the confiscation I started deleting them as I have the originals on SD cards and external hard drives. I wouldn't mind paying some for storage but 400 dollars a year is out of the question plus effective immediatly they say they own the rights to any photo on their site. Took me about an hour to learn how to add a watermark on my pictures so all my pictures will have my name obnoxiously pasted across them. Don, that shows up just fine. Mintenfarmer; posting straight from the computer is not the issue, however you need to resize your pictures before uploading.

Folks, Good discussion! What would I pay? Well I have been paying about $40 per year to photobucket because I had ran out of room. I would pay $40 per year to a site that housed all 4000 of my pictures that are spread out on 6 or 8 sites. Here is a picture direct from my computer. Re sizing photos is a piece of cake using Microsoft picture manager.
( Well this did not show up!) Can you see it? This is just a copy and paste from my computer. May be another way? Regards, Chris

I used that tree icon to post a picture once. I thought it was a lot easier and quicker than photo bucket. The last time I tried it however, I couldn't figure out how to resize it, so I went back to PB. The last time I was on photo bucket I was still able to use it, but I only have a few dozen pictures. It's so slow and aggravating it's just not worth it. It took me over two hours to download four pictures on photo bucket and then post them on this site. I'd like to post more pics, but that's to much work for me.

Here is my thought, maybe we keep our personal pics to the forum to play with... and when it comes to the Knowledge section, there should be a huge memory to transfer pics too for posterity to the threads in there, and NO access to outsiders, just actual posts from established members. ... and keep them separate from the normal pics and talk. Use to post pics to Redpower magazine, and then would be able to look at all the pictures in the memory others had posted, it was fun, but RP would get so many pics in their memory that they were deleted and start over again. That was a pain, specially when you posted pics couple days before and today they were gone... .

For resizing, there is a utility available that is a plug in to Windows. Search Windows Powertoys, and the resizer is the one of the options. Install it, and you can resize any picture by right clicking the file name or thumbnail and selecting resize from the drop down menu. Set your size in the pop up window and it will save a copy with a size added into the name. Saves chasing it around to other software.

You have to remember to resize and save as a low quality photo when posting using the forum to save your photo with the green tree. This will make the difference between you being able to store 25 photos or 250.
