We are splitting my dads 6060 for clutch replacement.
Splitting apart a foot the shaft to the transmission is still in the clutch pack. Is this normal? How far apart do we need for the shaft to clear the transmissiin?

We moved it apart a few more inches and the PTO shaft finally slid out of the clutch housing.
Sliding the PTO shaft back into the transmission we can't feel it engage anything, is this correct?

Has no one put a clutch in a 6060? The shop manual doesn’t give detail about removal of the clutch. The pto was not engaged when we separated the tractor just as the book stated. The pto shaft stayed in the clutch until we got it 11.5 inches apart and then it came out. We assume it reached a point where it couldn’t slid out anymore. Our question now is this a normal occurrence when splitting a 6060? When we slid the shaft back it doesn’t appear to engage into anything. It freely turns which I would say is normal since the pto lever is not engaged. The book says there is a coupling that can fall into the tranny if you have the pto engaged, which we did not. Any ideas?

You can see the coupling which you are referring to if you take the shift fork plate under the left side of the platform off if you have a concern that something is not correct abut it.

OK, thanks. Made us nervous.
Wish the manual had a Note "PTO shaft may slide out"

My First double clutch!

Another question regarding the throw out bearings, normally these are just slide on/off. Since this is a double, is there a different procedure?

Picture for reference
2075 hours on tractor, just doesn't seem like the clutch lasted long enough.

Here is a picture of when I did a 6080.  Yes the PTO shaft was stuck in the pilot bearing and pulled out.  I pushed it back in, no problems with it when put together.

The release bearing forks are held on with a lock bolt to the shaft.

We are sending the clutch pack to Rick for him to do his magic. When reinstalling the clutch, should we pull the pto shaft back out of the rear and slide it into the clutch as we are sliding the tractor back together? Just seams like with the shaft already lined up in its clutch it will make it easier to get main clutch splines lined up instead of fighting them both.

I would leave the shaft fully installed if it was me.

So I am asking on a 6080 is there an inspection window for the throw out fork? Clutch quit working this morning. Push the pedal it doesn't disengage

No window on the 6060 not sure about a 6080. When we replaced dads clutch we removed the cotter pin on the bottom of the housing and drilled the hole out larger to get my brothers camera probe in there to look around. It has a frexable head about a foot long. It allowed us to see while lining up the clutch. Not sure if we can see the throw out bearings and forks.

Most likely.  There is no inspection window on a 6080.
