So the separator clutch on the Gleaner that I have doesn't like to stay where it's supposed to be. I loosen the one bolt that holds it (which doesn't seem like it's enough) and I rotate that plate counterclockwise tighten the bolt down and everything works the way it should. The problem I'm having is it doesn't like to stay there... likes to work its way back. Any suggestions as this is the combine I'd like to keep between the two but not if it's going to give me issues with harvesting. To be honest I only have about 12 acres of beans to harvest which would obviously be better to have custom done but there's not many people in this area that do crops anymore that are small enough to want to bother with it. so my problem is I don't have a lot of beans to learn within. I have a very steep learning curve but not a lot of playground to mess with it. Thanks for any and all replies.

might need a new lock and bolt. does your lever inside "snap" into place when you engage the clutch? it's supposed to!

Is there a "clip" under the bolt? That "clip" fits in the knoches in the adjusting ring.

Dad had a k2 where the threads were stripped just enough that it would slip 1-2 threads while you were running and would never stay adjusted. Those aren’t hard to take apart and work on. I have a parts machine and may have the hub and adjustment ring. We robbed some other stuff but I don’t think we used those.

WEKracer has the answer. The adjusting ring will also crack around the bottom. MACK

I had the same issue with my F several years ago. The threads in the hub and on the adjusting nut looked factory. The problem was it was a very loose fit. I sawed thru one side of the nut and started it into the hub. Then I expanded it with a screw driver and tacked the saw Kirf with my welder. I then removed it and finished tacking the kerf without interfering with the treads. I was surprised how much it expanded and I could still screw it in place without any tools. I hope this helps.

No it doesn't snap into place but you can definitely feel it go in when you do have it adjusted. There is no clip I'll have to look on a parts machine that I have I just don't like taking stuff apart specifically for the information unless I'm using it.

Check that the Y shaped clip is under the bolt and if its forks are resting in the ring cut outs. I bet the fork is missing

the bolt only loosens the clip, it doesn't go thru to hold the clutch adjustment! you need that clip. it should be the same clip on all of the Gleaners of that era.

Okay that makes a lot more sense. I was wondering why they would put that entire system on one bolt that didn't go through anything...

So I looked at my parts combine and I had the clip on that but not on the one I'm trying to run. Thank God! I love it when you find a problem when something isn't working. Better than not knowing what's wrong. Next is how fast do I turn the adjustment without going to far?

Move it a few notches then see how it snaps in.    MACK

It doesn’t take much. Like Mack said. Try 2-3 notches and see how it feels. Good luck

What happens if you go too far? Just curious...

If it's too tight would probably have trouble getting it engaged.  Could also drag when disengaged I suppose.  Is there a procedure for adjusting it in the owners manual (if you have one)?

Curious to know, does tightening the ring move the clutch together to compensate for wear, or does it just increase tension in which it engages to the friction disk?

I adjusted mine this year (thanks for the forum advice) and wow what a difference. I only did one notch but i think ill do another by next season. I was a little intimidated by the parts diagram because there is like 100 parts to the clutch. Adjusting is pretty easy though now that ive seen past the cover.
