Hello Everyone.
First, glad to hear Mel is all right and assuming his family as well. Be safe out here Mel.
Question
I am draining the radiator on my HD16DC, a 1961, and would like to flush out the radiator prior to refilling it. I read in the manual about flushing and cleaning with Sal Soda. Has anyone used any type of radiator flushing cleaning solution on any of your tractors prior to refilling with clean antifreeze coolant? The coolant in the radiator right now looks brown and I want to start fresh and clean.
Is so please advise me. Otherwise I will just flush with clean water and leave it at that.
My thanks for sure.

Just flush with clear water, most other solutions have to be also flushed with clear water.

Thank you. And easier. I'm guilty of overthinking some of this.

If you can remove the thermostat and reinstall housing the flushing will be more effective . Also if you can flush from top to bottom is reversing the normal coolant flow picking up more debris .

I've also used non-suds washing soap. Cleans better and flushes out easier. Lost an oil cooler on my road truck one time and I thought I got it flushed real good. Didn't. Ran it a couple weeks, no issues, and then Oh heck. It had polished the inside of the radiator and didn't cause a problem.

I'm thinking just a good clean water flush at this point. Better than anything this old girls had in 40 years I bet.
