Had some old furnishings wanted to be rid of so put on CL, the scammers jumped right on them trying to convince me to accept a third party check and a 'Friend' as 'the handler of shipping' willing to pay $200 more than the asking price. When told no they wanted a email address so could email me a copy of the check they would send, told them NO again. Was called for three days until I finally gave the number to police. Was a BOT phone thru a parasite loaded PC in PA. The caller was evidently a African National by what they found.

I had a similar experience I received the check via USPS. Called the bank. The bank knew immediately because there were several fake checks drawn on their bank. The USPS fraud department told me that getting a fraudulent check via US mail was not mail fraud. They sent me to U.S. Postal Inspection Service Criminal Investigation Service. Their form was totally irrelevant. Nothing was ever done. The issue was $4500. I guess that was not enough for the postal service to get excited about.

Seems anymore the big fuss above misdemeanor level is over $5000. Won't even make court as to liens and such unless higher.

I have sold a few things, and bought a few things on Craigslist.. Its not all bad, but there are too many scammers.... If your selling something and you get an e-mail ( I specify e-mail ONLY, no phone calls) and the e-mail says " I am interested in YOUR ITEM"... you know to not reply... who calls a car, bike or furniture an ITEM ?

If you have the patience, it can be quite entertaining to jerk their chain back when you are e-mailing back and forth thru craigs list. As long as your tying up their time, they can't scam somebody else. They are equally gullible when they think they have somebody hooked.

I knew some people few years back that were having some crackheads stealing their mail.

I to thought the postmaster general wielded great power. had them call, and they were informed that the post office won't get involved unless their was in excess of 250k stolen. post office in its death throws it can't save itself, much less help anybody else.
