Quick question for the group. I am having a devil of a time getting the track adjusting rod on the idler end to unlock itself from the hydraulic piston. I have hydraulic adjusters.

The end that goes into the recoil housing has a rounded end that fits into the housing. Like a ball and socket. Is the end at the idler arm end the same way. A round end that nestles into the piston?

I have beat, soaked in oil and applied heat and it is stuck in there. Not giving up but the manual does not show what the end looks like. I have the entire assembly out but want to get the piston out and separated from the adjustment rod so I can clean it up and hone out the cylinder and add new seals.

Thank you and looking for some interesting solutions other than more heat and more pounding. lolol

Hello Coke.

It's a HD16DC. Serial number makes it out to be a 1961. Hydraulic adjusters. Here is a pick.

The idler yoke end is fused or severely stuck to the adjuster rod. The other end shown is what goes to the recoil housing.

The have been together over forty years, maybe fifty if never replaced. These should have been slip fitted possibly sweat fit to keep them tight. Ones on my 7G similar, only thing holds them together is time and rust with tight tolerances.

I agree. The push rod end that goes against the piston, I confirmed is a flat end that fits in a cup end of the piston. Nor rounded like the other end.

Means I will continue to work to get it separated using more heat and a lot of persuasion. Thank you DMiller.
