We use a White 5100 6 row with a 7 row splitter for soybeans. It's been a good planter. I don't have any experience with a 5100 in corn but we run a 6182 in corn and it gives a great stand. 5100s will do no till but it's on the lighter side. ------------- ryan 1984 8070 FWA,1979 7060,1975 7040,1971 190,1960 D-17D,1957 D-14, 196? I run a 6100 and love it. It is very similar to the 5100. I do know that the openers are bigger on the 6100 but there's not much else. Very reliable planters. ------------- When someone tells you Nothings Impossible, Tell them to slam a revolving door |

I know a couple of guys who bleed green through their green under ware and they run newer White planters. Dad is very happy with his 8000. AaronSEIA |

IMHO, either the CaseIH 1200/2000 series planters, or the White's.

I think IH bought the rights from the guy who did, and developed the cyclo planter. | Great planters,, we planted corn for 20 years with our 8-30. We put Yetter no-til coulters and fertilizer coulters. Did a good job putting it in the ground. |

| I have a friend who is a Precision Planting dealer and he was trying to get me to buy the Precision vacuum meters to convert my 5700 White (same as the 5100 row units). I took the White meter up and ran it on his test stand with the R2 seed and the medium plate (I grabbed the medium instead of the small plate that I use on all corn seed by accident). We had to run the air pressure lower since I had the larger plate in, but once it was dialed in, it singulated 99.7% of the seed (1000 seed test and it had 3 skips and 3 doubles). After playing around with the meter a little more to see what it could do at higher speeds (ran 98.?% at 10 mph from memory), he turned to me and said the only meter on the market that could do better was the Precision Vset. He explained on the meters that he has ran hundreds of checking the singulation and repairing. The John Deere fingers will run about 97%, Precision fingers 98%, Precision Eset 99%, and the Precision Vset 99.7%-100% on his test stand. He said that one time he tested a newer style IH meter, but I can't remember what he said it ran (wasn't the greatest, but not terrible either). My opinion is to have a good monitor to know what your singulation is and take the time to get your air pressure correct to singulate. After you get the planter adjusted, it will plant as good as any planter on the market. The planter does prefer medium or large rounds to make it the easiest to set, and the best singulation. |
