I was able to get one of my track adjusters off without splitting the track.
Wasn't my intent to remove it but it just happened. I was trying to get my idler assembly to free up. I used a 20ton bottle jack and a length of 4x4. Braced the timber against the track release housing and the jack against the adjuster yoke. Pre soaked the assembly with a combo of tranny fluid and acetone night before. After a little pressure the assembly broke loose and was able to tighten track. As the adjuster piston was still stuck the entire adjuster moved forward with the track and pulled away from the end that sits in the release housing. I took off the bracket that surrounds the adjuster tod and bolts to the frame. Blamo! The entire adjuster came our.

Now I was able to get s pipe wrench on the rod and turn the piston 360 degrees. Now it is taking grease and moving in and out and no leakin around the seal. Amazing. Will send picks.

Forgot to mention that this is s HD16DC. The adjustment rod has been welded and looks like it has been lengthened. I think the stock rod length was 24" per the parts book. Going to measure it to see how much it was lengthened.

Just measured both adjustment rods. Both are 20.5" end to end. Not sure how long these should be on a hydraulic adjuster. Book says 24" on the mechanical adjuster. Any one know original length should be on my16?

Hello AC friends

More follow up with a pic and a question. The parts book for my 16 says on the hydraulic adjusters, the adjuster rod is 20.5" end to end. Both my rods are that size so no length added which I think is a good thing. The repair I am showing on this rod now appears a case where they adjuster rod was cut to get at the adjuster to get it out. Just guessing and trying to verify with the owner.

My question is this. Does the adjustment or push rod come out of the hydraulic ram side as well so you can pull the piston? Mine is jammed on it but I have been soaking it and hope to break it lose. the parts book doesn't show it well. My guess is that it comes out to in fact service the ram and seal.

Another question is, how hard to get seal out and piston. I can turn the piston 360 now but to replace the seal the piston have to come out and I will then hone the inside of the piston housing and the piston itself.

Sorry for the size of the pic. I am toning it down to hopefully get a better look at it.

Looks to have been sleeve repaired at some point, the other side similar?

No DMiller. Other side is clean and original. Overall length on both sides however is stock so they didn't extend it for more adjustment.

Was kinda shocked that it came out as that was not my intent. Now I want to get that piston out and replace the seal.
