Allis G Head Bolt Torque.
Continental manual says 35-40 ft/lb for 3/8" head bolts..
I&T AC-11 manual says 53-57 ft/lb.
Allis G manual says 55 ft/lbs.
Anything over 40 ft/lb seems too much for a 3/8" bolt. I would think with 20 head bolts it wouldn't require a lot of torque.
Anyone have personal experience on installing an Allis G head?

I can tell on my head bolts I put thread sealer because my first motor they leak out top of the head.

Thanks. That's good to know. I enjoy rebuilding, but don't like to have to redo.
This is my first experience with an Allis G and it has been an experience. Seems like every step I take, I find something else that needs attention.
Hopefully when I am finished, I can look back with a sense of accomplishment. The engine and clutch housing assembly will be as good as new.

When I put my continental N62 together for my G, I used the AC manual 55 ft/lbs and snapped of bolts.
I bought all new grade 8 and still they broke.
So went by feel, but don't remember what torque I ended up with, I just looked on line

You do need a thread sealer on the bolts due to the fact most go through to the coolant in the block. I don't know if the 33 in the chart is a "Wet Torque" or a "Dry torque", but 33 seems reasonable to me with a thread sealer.
