Okay I reworked 8070 to show condition I also use for farm work. When I had tanks off about three or four years ago I replaced the drain plugs because they were dry rotted.i have replaced with many new plugs from dealership at eighty something dollars a lick. They will not hold up. I will tighten them and in a day or two the rubber splits and fuel leaks or I have had them to come completely out and lose all the fuel it tank. Okay I thought I may be over tightening them so I pushed in and tightened just a little where it would not come out and add some fuel and crawl under and tighten a little at a time till it stops leaking. Well give it a few days and it is leaking again so tighten some more a few days and leaking again finally it splits and it's time to get another. I have used boat plugs and rubber freeze plugs they work good till a few days and the rubber in them gets soft and they come out. I keep a couple of them at all times to temporary fix the AGCO plugs that come out of course the fuel runs all over you when you change them out in the field. I have now plugged one tank completely off where I have only one plug to deal with. I'm ready to take tanks off and tie a bucket to the tractor. Any ideals how to fix this or replace plugs with? May have to go to the maroon belly 7000s steel tank. But I would rather not. Is the hole that the plug fits into nice and smooth? A burr or ridge could possibly cause a small leak, so would a hairline crack in the tank fitting where the plug goes in. Also if the plug extends just a bit past the bottom of the tank it will seal better. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

| A bulkhead fitting might work, if you can figger out a way to get at the inside of the tank, to hold the nut... Or, drill out the hole to fit a valve stem, fish a valve stem down to the hole, and pull it through, with a valve stem pulling tool... |

How big is the hole most freeze plugs. And boat plugs are not designed for oil and will always get soft and leak go find a hydraulic bulk head fitting it will have oil resistant gaskets on them find the ones that are blind that will have a spot on the out side to put a wrench to tighten the jam nut do not turn the fitting just the nut use a stiff wire to fish from the plug out the cap then just drop the fitting down the wire put nut on remove wire teflon up a metal plug and no more problem ------------- You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul |

Dave, the hole is alittle big for a valve stem and I don't think the valve stem will hold up with the Diesel fuel . It will be like the boat plug or the rubber freeze plugs. Don't know what the AGCO plugs are made of but fuel don't bother them but they split and leak. Put about 15 ft of small soft rope in top of the tank ( tie the end to something) then dump about 5 gallons fuel in an let it run out the bottom most of the time the rope will float to the hole may take couple tries once it's end is out then you can put the fitting on the rope and send it on down to the bottom ------------- You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul |

The rest of us with 8000 series plastic fuel tanks are reading this thread in nervous anxiety wondering how long our plugs are going to last…? Mine are cracked too, but still holding. How about putting some fuel tank repair glue on the plug prior to install? |

Wouldn't hurt to try. Another thing these plugs from AGCO are getting harder to find. Maybe cause I used them up. LOL. But I bought from two differant dealers and both had to get from other dealers and the last had to be back ordered and after a couple of months I got it in. I was thinking they may be getting old and that's why I'm having trouble with them. I'm gonna try to come up with something. Maybe try the hyd. Another way to snake in fittings is to use an easy-reacher, up, from the bottom, and out the fill cap... also could use a wire fishing tool, like the 'lectricians do... | Hey Kevin. Good to hear from you again. It's been a while since I've seen a post from you. Glad to hear that you have that 8070 just the way you like it, but sorry to hear about the fuel tank leaks. Never heard of that happening before. I'll take a look at mine some time tomorrow, and see what kind of plugs it has. I hope it doesn't start having this issue. My black belly 7060 has plastic tanks, too, and it was leaking fuel when it was plum full. But we found a hole in the top of the tank that wasn't plugged. It was a factory, round hole, and don't know what was supposed to be there, but being on the very top, and only having to hold back a little sloshing, we put a piece of duct tape over it. I know that is not a good fix, but we were out in the field when we discovered the hole, and it was a "make do with what you have" situation. Darrel |

Yeah I've been quite for a while. I toke the tanks off when I rebuilt the transmission. I seen they were dry rotten and thought, I don't need to put these back so I poped them out and put new ones in and they have been a problem ever since. That's been four or five years ago. Not only they leak but sometimes they come come completely out and usually over night. Makes big mess when tanks full. I thought I was installing wrong but I have tried ever way you can and they still leak. So I'll have to try some of the ideals these folks have thrown at me. Bad thing is there is no hole in the top of the tank that is leaking now.
