Yea I saw that too. But it kinda has me confused because according to tractor datas "how to read ser. numbers" then my tractor would have been produced after 1980. Or would that mean my tractor is a 1980 model?

I am happy for you to get such a good deal. But it's kind of sad that a person needs beer money so badly that he'd get rid of a tractor to get it. That tractor will be in your yard loooooooong after that fellas beer is gone. Darrel

You are correct. He was actually draining the oil out of it fixing to carry it to sell for scrap metal when I drove up. (Someone gave me a heads up) So I offered him scrap price and he took it. I also have a 57' fordson dexta that I like to work with so im ready to fire this AC up and see how I like it.

Well I hope you develop "Orange fever" and save many more orange tractors from the scrapper. It's a fun hobby,......uhhhh, I mean fun job! LOL! Darrel

That was one heck of a deal !
I had a '78 5040 with a 400 loader on it. A great 40hp tractor that was very fuel efficient. Put a 6' TSC mower on it. The 3 point is very good on those tractors. And the power steering is easy. Mine was a 6-speed (2 ranges of 3 gears). The top 2 gears in each range were synchronized. Yours is probably an 8 or 12 speed, right?
Sold it a few years ago as I no longer needed it. I have some info, such as torque specs, fuel filter change/bleeding, and clutch adjustment if you need it. The Service Manual and Operator's Manual are available online as well.
Good luck with it gatz
