My '38 WC has been to a bunch of local tractor pulls and has done pretty well. It was still in with the big boys at Sunday's pull, though that didn't last too long!
BUT she may be getting a bit tired! The clutch doesn't engage until just as the pedal reaches the end of its travel. I'm also getting a small bit of chatter as the clutch engages. So two questions:
1. Can I adjust the clutch linkage so the clutch engages earlier?
2. Do these symptoms suggest that it might be time for a new clutch?

Without a manual in front of me.....I would adjust the pressure plate levers, failing that you need replacement. There is no other adjustment I know of.

Let's say when that old clutch was brand new, you had 4 inches of free-travel at the clutch pedal. Thru normal wear and tear, that 4 inches of free-travel will eventually go to zero. Adjusting the clutch pedal rod or the pressure plates finger height might create some new free-travel BUT, the disc may be worn too thin that you could have slipping problems anyway, which would mean time for a new clutch.

Makes total sense, Dr! I have no idea how old that disc is, but I'd guess that tractor pulls over the last 10-15 years have worked it pretty hard. I'm hoping to get it in my shop over the winter and replace the clutch.

Talk to Rick about a clutch assy. He'll fix ya up. He does a nice job and very reasonable to! I get my clutches from him. No problems yet.
