I just received notice that photobucket wants to start charging me $60 a year for using their service.  If you try to see any of my pictures here, you can't (not even my avatar).  Is anyone else being extorted by them?  What other site can I use for posting pictures here?

I appreciate any assistance!

read the new agreement terms they published the other day, that $60 won't give you third party rights, which is what you'd need to post on a forum, they got my stuff a couple of days ago, I had a bunch of stuff out I couldn't loose host to, so they got my money for the moment, in full hunt for their replacement now. If I can post for anyone just email picture to me and I'll put it up.

Yeah, I've had about enough of Photobucket's bull too.  You can still have a free account, but it seems you can no longer link the photos to other sites like we do here with that free account.  So stupid, why else would I want to have an account?!  They are getting greedy I guess.  I'll have to figure out another site as well because I ain't paying for their fancy upgraded account.
I'll welcome any suggestions as well, as I hate to see my posts have dead pictures, but I don't know if I'll ever take the time to redo all of them.... sigh.....

Someone in another forum I visit told me Photobucket wanted $400 from him. He posted linked perhaps one picture a month. I wonder where they came up with their price schedule.

I decided some time ago, I would not be held hostage by others with my pics,,,,so I keep my pics on my hard drive and occaisionally transfer them to a thumb drive. You can now buy thumb drives with up to 156 Gb for only bout $20,,,,and that's a LOT of pics, emails notes etc,,,,,Clap
The problem with using places like Photoshop and others is exactly what they doin now,,,plus the big possibility of the new crop of hackers, scammers and low lifes takin these companies down and then ransoming you big time.  HTH's

so, do you just click on the picture on your own computer and paste it onto the forum?  I didn't think that would work?  Dave

I hate the photobucket site. It's so slow it's painful to use. So many ads pop up you can't get anything done. Every time I resize pictures I check the replace original box before I save, but it never works. I always end up with two identical pictures and I have to figure out which is which. I'd post pictures more often if it wasn't so much trouble.

I just upload the file from my desktop. I do resize though before doing so. Have never had to use photobucket.

well, I just tried to see if I could copy a picture directly from my computer, and am not able to figure out how to do it.  I right clicked on the picture, selected copy, then when I come over here it will not let me paste.  What's the trick for doing this?

Pretty simple task to copy from your own files onto here, just have to go into file manager every so often and delete the older photos so as to not use all your available space.

I do same as DMiller,it works GREAT I used photobucket for years ,I would never go back to it.

I just checked and you're allowed 50MB of 'file space', so that's at least 150 photos, if they're about 350KB in size( email quality....)
Now if you register for a Gmail account, they allow LOTS of space for 'files'.
Smart thing is to buy a big flashdrive or external HD and copy what you want. Actually you should backup everything every month or two....just in case...

I found the same thing out this afternoon about the photobucket.
I have a lot of my pictures on that site.
Most of the Semi loads of tractors.
Trying to use Google photo today for the first time.
Here are my test pictures.

That did not work.
Guess try to figure out later

When you want to post a picture from your computer, click on the "tree" icon at the top of the Post reply page.  Click Browse and find your picture, click upload and the OK when it tells you to wait.
A file name will show in the left hand box. It has to go to the right hand box to view it. If you have a file listed in the left side just copy that file name and paste it to the URL line at the top of the right side. Then, click preview and look at the width and height numbers. If it is over about 600 wide, it won't all fit the page. You can downsize the pic by dividing both of those numbers by 3 or 4 or whatever it takes to get 600 to 800 wide.
Once you are happy with the preview, click OK at the bottom toward the right.
Sounds kinda involved but is fairly simple once you try it.

I have some old pics on photbucket, but haven't used it in years. I was using Picasa and liked it, but Google decided to end it in favor of their Google Pictures account. I still have ace's to all my pics there, just have to learn a new way to do things thru Google Pics . Seems like everybody has to keep changing things that work, to make it a forever learning process to use a puter.

trying again just to make sure I've got the sizing thing also figured out.  The picture file for the prior picture remained in the "box" when I uploaded this picture.  Will it go away or how would I delete it from the box?

Any pictures you upload will remain in the left side. (hint) name them before you upload them or you'll have a bunch of numbered pics you'll have to look thru to find a certain one later.
As long as they remain in your image file, they will show up on your old posts where you shared them. When you run out of space to upload more, you can delete files, but they will no longer show up on your old posts.

Exactly, and this is why some of us need a place to store pics online to share to sites.  I prefer to run my threads like an archive, where people (and I) can refer back to them for years to come.  There is nothing worse than researching something in an old thread and the pictures are dead.

OK, not out of the woods yet.  I need to fix my avatar (the little picture for my profile).  It says 100 KB max size, but the picture I want to use is 1470 KB.  How do I put it on a diet?
Next issue:  How do I post videos?  The method described above does not work for MPEG files.
Thanks again.  I am getting closer!

I'm by no means a computer wizard but I discovered years ago I could simply upload  my photos to this site from "my Pictures" off my computer. All of the pictures I've uploaded over the years are stored here if I want to show them again....which I've done on many occasions.
By clicking on the "insert image", all of my previously posted pictures are available for posting again.
For example:

Folks just tried the upload using the tree (image feature) Looks like it may work OK. I typically have used photobucket. I think I pay $40 a year for keeping my pictures on photobucket.

I have had pics on Photobucket for 15 years I think, and never paid a dime.
To upload videos, you have to use the "film strip" icon, NOT the tree. I put any videos I have on youtube and then share them anywhere.

How many pictures do you guys have on Photobucket?
Why is everyone so down with Photobucket?
Are they not a company out a make a profit? How many of you are willing to provide services for whatever your profession is for free? I doubt if many do except for friends and family.
Now the issue will be Darin's. And what are we going to say if he starts adding pop up adds or even goes to charging a membership fee?
The real issue is we need to take care of our own stuff and not put it on to some one else.
Just get an external drive and be done. You can get a Seagate 2 TB for $46. That will hold a lot of pictures and videos.

I have been using photobucket and have not yet been hijacked.  the file manager works great until you run out of space.  when you start deleting pictures,  posts in the knowledge base go to hell because the pictures have been deleted.  or like the post i made last week about the UC transmission rebuild.  if i put that in the file manager and then later deleted the pictures to post something else,  it would be hard to understand what a rebuild takes, and just about makes the post useless to future readers.  so the file manager is not a good solution as it does not allow enough storage.

and photobucket makes its money of the adds that other companies put up

Yes they have the right to change the policy and that is what it stated in the agreement that they could change it at any time.
But up till that time, I only had less than half the space filled up per the original agreement.
Not less I read the new changes wrong it would cost me $400.00 a year to post pictures from there site.
I am not willing to pay that much to just post pictures.

I have all my pictures backed up but PB made it easier to post to this site and our club site.  I also read in the new agreement that they can copy and use your photo's and water mark them if you choose to delete your account.  I have started the process of deleting all my photo's on there.  Think from now on I will put a watermark on all my photo's posted on sites, especially if they are stored on an outside source.

It's not so obvious at first .... how to access those files you've already uploaded to delete ones you don't want anymore, rename them or to gain space.
You have to go to the "Member Control Panel" (under your name, of course)

Once there,  scroll down & click on File Manager; the files will be listed in the left-hand column.

CTucker, I can post now but the picture is not as big as I would like. I played with width and hight, but it automatically goes to 3264 and 2448. If I change that to the max size it will upload which is 350,200 the picture is not that large. See the post above of my decals. What am I missing?

THANK YOU Darin Stratton for this site!!!

NOW,,,,,,,,,,,,,
in regards to Photobucket...........We're being held hostage.... Let's ACT!!

I've been saying this all along............
How much will each member toss into the pot to buy a second server or external hard drive so that ALL pictures can be put on THIS site and not have to be inputted from somewhere else?

What's it worth guys??

Darin, can you tell us what you need so we can help pay for whatever it is and so we don't ever have to worry about this kind of crap again from someone else like Photobucket!!

There is a lot of stuff in the knowledge base that we need to keep and will have to go back into and replace pictures.  For those of us who have benefited from the http://www.allischalmers.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=18&title=farm-equipment-knowledge-base" rel="nofollow - Farm Equipment -Knowledge Base and used it, we need to safe guard these things!!!

Darin, we need help!!  Please let us help!  What are YOUR thoughts?

I'm going to start a thread and ask Darin what we can do and help with.........

All I did was right clip and "view image" and then copy it and paste it here. So it is a good size for the forum,, don't know why yours show up smaller.

Well, I went to http://www.vgy.me" rel="nofollow - www.vgy.me , they actually have a button for if you want to transfer your photos over from photobucket. Haven't tried that yet, but I did upload one. Lets see if it works-

So I'm experimenting with Google Photos.  Far as I can see it is free, and unlimited, and I should be able to share to sites like this.  And if I figure it out can have it automatically back my photos up from my phone.
I started one album, with a few of my photos.  Let's see if I can make this work here.

well link works for me at least.  Can't seem to get pic to post here though

I had Picasa on my old computer and used it all the time. Then Google changed things up so I have to use Google Photos to see those pics now. I haven't messed with it enough to help sharing pics but I'm sure it isn't hard to do, once you figure it out. Then Google will come up with a better idea and you have to re-learn it. It still beats apying for a slow out of date service like photobucket IMO.

Jacob,
Not familiar with Google Photos (I use Google Drive), but is there a setting for who can view the photo?

Like "Anyone Can View"  or some such

I am just getting familiar with Google Photos myself.  It may not even be the way to go, but thought I'd check it out and keep this conversation going for the sake of helping everyone.  I use Gmail all the time, but that is about all I utilize of all the google stuff available.
I'll be honest and admit I don't really know a lot about Google Drive either.  I believe it is basically a place to store any document or pic in the cloud?  Google Photos is kinda the same thing from what I gather, but just for pictures.

I haven't dug a lot, but yes, there are settings for if you want an album to be shared with the public, or keep it private.  Or just share it with certain people on your email list for example.

From what I read though, like I previously said, I don't believe one can post the pic here in picture form.  Only as a link to the pic on your Google Photo account.  So that really doesn't help a guy like me who just wants a photo hosting site so I can share my pics on forums like this one.  At least not conveniently for the public reading my threads, you'd have to click on each pic link to see them.

I just don't know what the answer is.
