Subject: Mexican hat questions

I have a customer that is looking at a set of Mexican hat duals.

He is looking at the centers. How do they attach to the tractor?

What type of rim will a person use on these? Just a regular double bevel? I see they have a set of 38 inch spin out rims they claim are duals.

Thanks for the help

They mount the same as the main wheels. Two wedges around the axle. Both spin out and double bevel rims will work as long as you have the correct rim wedges.

They bolt to your center casting where weights bolt. Rims are 9 ? Hole. Hard to keep tight on center casting. (won't stay tight).   MACK

We are talking about two different wheels. The one's I was talking about was on 190's-200s.     MACK

These are the kind of dual hubs Mack is talking about.

We never had a problem with them coming loose though, I am sure others did.  This was our heavy tillage tractor for years, and it always had the dual on.

I have Mexican Hat duals on my 220. Double bevel rims on the inside with the cast centre in as far as possible. Since I have 20.8 radials, I found that I needed to use power shift rims on the duals to get enough clearance between the tires on the ground. Dual centres clamp on the axle the same as the inside centres. On 7000 or 8000 series tractors you can use double bevel rims on the duals if the axles are long enough. Have flower pot style on a D-21 with no problems.

Here is a set on a 220.  You need the correct diameter wedges for the axle. Then the centers, 16 slides for powershift wheels or the ones for double bevel rims, and then the rims.  Inner wheels must be mounted as far in as possible on the 220s and short axle 7000-8000 series tractors.

Thanks for all the help guys. The parts went to high I felt. The hats didn't have the axle wedges. They had the rims and clamps bit you had to buy everything piece by piece.

Actually you only use 8 rim locks on each of the power shift rims. Rims and locks are common with other brands. Axle wedges are the same as inside rims. Just have to have wedges for the correct axle diameter.
