I have a 7020 That had a bad compressor when i bought it. I just replaced it with a reman. I pumped it down and charged it up and it works great with one exception. When the clutch kicks in it seems to make a lot of noise to me . Is this normal on these old pumps?

I had real BAD luck with those reman compressors.   finally found some 70's chevy cars with the them on and got 2.   you gotta change the clutch pulley but the second compressor is still on the shelf 20yrs later!

I think we put 3 reman A6 compressors on ours since 1981. I don't think they were a great unit new. Add on to that the serpentine condenser is non serviceable(doesn't flush debris). The original lines on them will not hold r-134a well because the molecules are smaller. I replaced the entire A/C system on ours with AP-Air Sanden/Valeo compressor, lines, Evap and Condenser.

the A/C compressor wore out on my 7010 a couple years ago. then I found a couple hoses had started to leak too. went thru A&I for all new hoses (way cheaper than AGCO) and took the compressor off my Caddy, I now have A/C again!

3 ounces is not anywhere close enough. To give an idea how much oil it needs an 82 Ford Crown Vic used the A-6 compressor and a full system charge is 13 ounces. What you should have done is drained the oil from the original unit into a measuring cup then add that amount back in plus 2 ounces. If you haven't run it much you might get lucky and add oil to the system and be ok. If the compressor has started to shred itself, you're stuck replacing it again and need to purge all debris from the system.

My A/C mentor always taught me to try and drain the old compressor to see how many ounces were in it and refill the new compressor with at least that much. More if there was a blown hose or bad leak on the compressor, but not more than a couple ounces more than what was drained out of the compressor. Oil is throughout the whole system and overfilling it isn't good and will negatively affect the A/C cooling performance.

3 OZ IS about right for compressor, but if dryer was replaced (which should have been), another 3-4 Oz should be added. The amount to be added is a guessing game.     MACK

The system takes 11 ounces of oil total
