Slightly off topic, but what should you lube the cables with? The 6000's have about 6 cables. One of my aux. hyd. is stickey. Lubeing is easier than replacement! Bill

| I use a spray lubricant, it's hard to get lube in them, at work on the cranes we flush them with antifreeze, then follow up with lube and anti_ seizure stuff, but they are alot bigger |

About 10 years ago we needed to replace a shift cable on a
JD 7520. At the time it was well over
$300 at the dealer. I was able to get
one made by Midwest Control ( http://www.midwestcontrol.com/" rel="nofollow - ),
delivered to my door, for about $100. I
was able to do everything on line. They
had a menu of specifications to pick from that allowed me to customize a
perfect match to the OEM cable. If I
recall correctly it showed up a few days after ordering. The tractor does not get used much anymore,
but the cable is still on there and working fine. Things may have changed in the past 10 years,
but at the time it was by far the best option I could find. |

Grab your ankles and buy it from Agco. Folks always try to beat the system then whine and cry when it's NLA. Those tractors are crazy cheap to maintain per hour just suck it up. I had a 6070 with a loader and every summer the cable would break. Of course it was right in the middle of haying and corral cleaning. (and probably on a saturday or long weekend) [and who wants to wait for the dealer to order?] I fabricated a steel rod with some bracing in the angle of the cable and thru the cable setup good-bye! I put thousands of hours on that new linkage and was still performing when I sold the tractor. Sometimes its good to feel the fear and do it anyway! You can always put the cable back in if you wanted. Some of us have adopted Eastwood's -improvise, adapt, overcome! |

| the cable on my 6060 broke several years ago. I removed the inner nylon sleeve that the cable fits in and put in as large of a hardware store cable that would fit in the hole in the clevis end. used cable crimps on the ends. you can figure out the total length that the cable needs to be and there is some adjustment there also. you need to adjust according to the service manual. I can look it up if you need. You measure from the floor mat to the bottom of clutch pedal but do not remember the exact amount. there is no free play on that throw out bearing. you can raise the pedal higher but that is just slack on the cable clevis ends. that fix worked for about 5 years and it frayed and broke. so I did the same thing over except coated the cable with that nasty old black military winch cable grease. it has been doing well ever since. you have to have the grease on the cable that will stick to it like possum poop because it rubs inside of the black covered spring on the outer part of the assembly and will wear out in the bend when it is installed. I use it to round bale so it gets used a lot. |
