I have oil in the radiator on 1956 wd45 diesel tractor, I'm thinking bad head gasket. Any ideas?

Your spell fixer needs adjusted to allow Allis Chalmers.
Oil in in the coolant can be head gasket, cylinder sleeve o-rings (though that's more often a source of coolant in the oil), and rusted out freeze plugs in the top of the head.

Yes, it can be a head gasket leaking oil into the cooling system, but get ready it might cost a lot to make the head gasket hold. If you remove the head and find cracks in the top of block between the cylinders and it's a good bet there's one sleeve or more down below the top of block that will allow the gasket to leak.

As Don said prepare yourself and your pocketbook,,,, First thing I would do is fill the radiator all the way to the top and leave the cap off then start the tractor. If water is pushed up out if the radiator along with bubbles put the cap back on and ponder how much you want to spend. Rarely, almost never does this situation simply require a gasket. very common is head repair, block repairs, then while it is all apart you might as well overhaul it. Have $4500 set aside and hope it is enough is the bottom line.
