Hello,

I'm working on a 6070 FWA and had a few questions. The tractor has a loader and quite a few hours on it. One of the front hubs/wheel bearings was loose and the tire could rock in and out at the top/bottom a fair amount. Took it apart and the wheel bearings show some wear but don't look super bad to me. The outer races don't have a lip that you can feel or anything where the needles don't ride, but it does look more shiney there. The cages on the needles are getting a bit looser, but not super bad. I tightened the hub nut and was able to get the slop to go away. It seemed like as I tightened the nut, the left and right slop disappeared before the up and down slop. I think the bearings could be used for a while yet.

At what point would you replace the bearings vs. tightening them up? When you can't get them tighter or they look really bad?

Are bearings supposed to hold the end of center shaft that drives the center (sun) gear up? Right now, it's so loose that you can move it out until it hits the inside of the "tube" that it sticks out of. So the center (sun) gear would self-center itself between the three outer (planet) gears. Is this how they normally are or is it really worn?

Where can you get a "spanner" wrench to tighten the external nut that holds everything tight?

Is it worth the extra money to get Agco parts vs. Aftermarket (Sparex?) parts for this if I need any? The Agco ones are quite a bit more.

Some of the couplers on the front drive shaft are fairly loose. Is is bad to replace just the couplers? Are there places that can respline the driveshaft or is it best to get a new one from Agco?

Thank you for the advice!
Peter

What about the ball joints-pivot pins? Do they need some shim removed ?     MACK

The ball joints/pivot pins seem tight. I don't notice any slop in them. Should I check them or anything or only if they're noticeably loose?

Should the axle shafts just pull out of the front differential/axle after you remove the front stub axle/spindle and the "set screw" and lock nut or is there a snap ring somewhere? Should you have to pull pretty hard? Any tricks to getting them out?

Thanks,
Peter
