Need help/advice for anybody that has info on swapping out Undercarriage gear on 650 series. I have a Allis-chalmers 655 that has worn tracks. The rails, sprockets, and possibly the lower rollers are at the end of there reliable life cycle. We all know these parts are becoming more obsolete. My question is: Has anybody swapped out for Cat or JD? I found another post on the possibility of cutting down the sprocket and welding on a D3 rim and running the D3 rail. But need to find out what is all else involved such as rollers, grousers... Obviously this will be costly, but so is letting a great machine go to waste. This machine has the 4-in-1 bucket, ROPS, rear weights, rebuilt fuel pump, new brakes, new steer clutches, many new hyd lines, nice paint, and its not butchered up with repairs and welds. Love to keep this thing alive. New to this forum, thanks!

H4 HD4 H3 all the same also
old machines are getting hard to find track for in the US and not many are importing them parts either as quantity to get shipped or made in China now makes it hard to find.

It seems I remember seeing a 653 for sale where the guy had tracked down all new undercarriage parts but had a fortune in the machine. Somewhere close to $12k and he was asking $20k. I read somewhere about someone looking into swapping on Cat parts but it never happened. It comes down to having the parts on hand to test fit and the machining and fabricating to get them to fit. At this point, I look at my 653 as a low usage, nice to have piece of equipment so I'll live with as it is. So if something does go bad, I'd hunt for used parts. Once my pay check depends on it, I'd be looking for a Cat.
