Been looking for a cam with press on gear with no luck. Have one offer of cam/gear but it is the 3 bolt one. Will this work with a WD45 226? Is this for a WD45 or the older WC or WD?

Early WD-45/W-226 engines used the three-bolt cam/gear combination.

I think I found a press on so I should be good to go, thanks. I'm curious though, this was used in an early eng, could it be used in the later blocks or is there other differences besides the bolt/press on cam? Is the oil pump gear the same? I have a '57 45 block with no cam.

The pressed on gear and cam were direct parts replacement for the bolt-on gear and cam. Now, the later D-17's (s/n 24001 and up) had more driving teeth on the cam for the oil pump, so you can't use it without changing your oil pump gear. COUNT THE TEETH AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE THE SAME.
