press wheels for old AC 74 - 78 planters ? Any one know of a source for dual rib traction tread or single rib traction tread skins.

I have calls for dual rib traction tread tires as we still have a lot of units running.

Didn't Miller tire buy the molds and start reproducing these tire. ..? Darrel

Some years ago I was on a mission to get these tires produced. Somewhere in these Forum archives is the post I started, looking for potential buyers if I did get a batch made. I was working with Carlisle Tire. They had purchased the molds from Ohio Rubber Co. and were stored in a warehouse. The warehouse had then gone through a fire and it wasn't known if those particular molds had survived, or what condition they were in. Once the molds were found there was something like a $1500 prep fee, along with a minimum quantity on the production run. All along, the run to be made was for the dual rib traction tread tire. At some point during the months long process, Carlisle stated they would only do the deal with an established customer. I contacted Shoup but they were not interested. Next I contacted Ed Miller at Miller Tire here in Ohio. Ed agreed to do the deal with Carlisle, and from that point on it was their baby. I was to receive the 20 some tires I needed and the rest would be Millers. Well the day came when the tires were produced (I believe it was either a run of 1000 or 1500), and I got a call from Carlisle I believe it was, that they had made a mistake. Instead of making the dual rib traction tread, they had made the center rib traction tread (their mistake). In order to make the tire we had ordered, these tires would have to be bought as well (no discount offered). Ed and his sister decided to go ahead and have the second batch made as well. Miller Tire sort of went out on a limb in order for these tires to get made. As it turned out for us users and collectors, that mistake gave us a selection of fresh tires for our planters for years to come. That tire was used by most planter manufacturers during that period.

I wanted the dual rib traction tread for no-till use. When I did get mine, they were NICE, soft, fresh rubber. The man I worked with at Carlisle went way out of his way to help get these made, and without Miller Tire they wouldn't have been. That's the story.
