I'm trying to fix up a much neglected diesel 175. All the gauges are toast and the wire cluster cut and apparently taped at one time so the first thing I want to do is hook up the new AC temp gauge I bought. The terminals are marked B and T. The sender has a green with white stripe wire attached to it that leads off and up to the cut gauge bundle. To me B means battery or power and the T means.....haven't a clue. I wired the T to the sender and the B to the power but the gauge pegged to hot so I reversed the connection and there is no response at the gauge after driving for about 15 minutes. I'm wondering if the sender is toast as well. My manuals aren't of much help. Any suggestions or guidance much appreciated, particularly what the B and T terminals on the gauge mean and a reasonable way to use a meter to test the sender. Thanks much Tom

"T" means "temp sender". You had it wired up correctly the first time. Make sure the sender doesn't have any teflon tape wrapped around the threads. Most temp sending units need to be grounded. They establish their ground when you screw them into the manifold or cylinder head. If taped, the tape acts as an insulator and the gauge will react the way it did because there is no ground.... HTH

sounds good, it is however as it has been for many years but it is quite possible that the connection to ground is poor considering the condition of the cooling system in general. Thanks for the info.
