Subject: WD Belt Pulley

| This is a silly question, but can't figure it out. I have an Allis-Chalmers WD with a belt pulley. How do I get the pulley to turn? I found a U tube video that showed a WD with an engagement lever however I don't have one of those. Any thoughts? Any hints or tips would be appreciated. Thanks! |

| There's a set screw above the pulley in the torque tube. Loosen it up and push the pull in until the gears mesh. |

| Just a side note, if the tractor is running, you will need to have the foot clutch depressed before engaging the pulley gears. |

Hi EP. To add to Grinder and Tom, if you look at the shaft, you will notice several holes in a spiral pattern that sets your pulley into the gears tighter or looser. Here's what my dad had emphasized to me to do so as to not mess anything up since we hooked up our WD45 to the hammermill to grind feed: when the pulley is engaged into the gears and with the engine shut off & the foot clutch engaged, you want about 1/8 inch lash(movement) to compensate for the metal expansion when those gears heat up from the workload. Rotate the shaft to the proper hole that will give you the 1/8" lash. Also, engage the hand clutch when doing belt work with it. I don't think the governor ever came off of the wall once the feed grinding commenced until we were done! A very distinctive sound and you knew that we were grinding feed!

It DOES hold the pulley in place... the whole assembly, actually... just like the starter bolt retains the starter... if you back it out enough to move it in... it'll pull right out just as easily.  ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |
