| hey guys, im trying to put a new front seal in my 48 b but im not sure how the front pulley comes off. i have taken the nut with the screw in it out of the side of the pulley.was going to put pullers on it, but i just had gear pullers. they wont work. i dont want to do the wrong thing and break something. i need an expert. thanks for any help. phil |

I wouldn't put pullers on unless you were very gentle because they could break the cast iron pulley. Mine luckily slid right off after I loosened the set screw. I've heard many aren't so lucky. If it were me, I'd try heating the hub of the pulley, trying to keep the heat off the crankshaft. That should expand the pulley so it may slide off easier. You could also try tapping it with a hammer, just be careful you don't break the pulley.
On a second note...I have used pullers, just put them on and snug them a tiny bit. Then gently tap the center of the pulley. If it moves a little, tighten the pullers a bit more. Sometimes if you're careful, that will work. Others will chime in and share their experiences and advice.

| They have two setscrews one under the other.I removed setscrew and put pry bars on each side behind and pryed close too center of hub.Penetrate good. |

I just put the pulley puller on it and cranked..... of course I did have two spares if that one broke. But I wasn't worried about the pulley breaking, it didn't even seem like it stressed it too much when I was pulling it. If I remember right it wasn't super hard to get off. ------------- '39 Model B Tractors are cheaper than girls, remember that! |
