Looking at a 1400 Chiselvator. 27 footer with 7 1/2" spacing. 4 rank Noble scratcher. Will need all new shovels. Its orange (at least it used to be before it spent 20 years outside) with Deutz Allis decals.. NOT a Vermeer model. Frame is straight - walking axles show little to no wear. What is it worth?

Round here (SWOH) I've seen them in the 5-6k range in good shape. Needing shovels anywhere in the 3-5k would be an honest price.

About $2,000 here if they need shovels maybe up to $3000 at best.

If you don't buy it, I would be very interested in it. I've been looking for one.

I have a 24' and looked for years to find one. $3-4,000 sounds about right. Shovels are not a big deal. Not many orange ones that narrow. Mine had mostly stretched and out of shape shanks so I took them all off and using a new one for a guide, re-arched them all in the press. Still holding their shape. Only snapped 3. Have a 1300 24' that I bought new in 1977 and have used every year since.

I've never seen many 1400's. Wondering what is different on the Vermeer built?

Never knew that Vermeer didn't make them all. I always thought Vermeer built all the discs , field cultivators and planters after Laporte plant closed. Vermeer built the 385 planter

As far as I know I think all specs are the same - but that the ones built by Vermeer carried a "V" in the serial number - and I have always figured those to be the later built machines? I have an orange 1400 with V in the number - and a green parts machine with a V in the serial number - this one is orange - Deutz Allis decals - SN is 2540 - no "V"?
