I am rebuilding a 201 cd engine for my WC and it seems to me that the camshaft bearings or bushings are a little sloppy, I don't have the head on the block, I went to put the cam in and saw that the bushings were worn and with the cam in I can feel a little slop in the cam front end, I think I should replace these cam bearings, what do you think? I have read some things that make this slop not too critical. Do I need to make allowance for the wear on the cam by getting the bearings undersized, or can I buy them in different diameters?

How do I go about removing these original bearings? installation seems pretty straight forward being sure to line up oil holes

New cam bearings are very critical to having good oil pressure on these engines. There are different sizes but the journals on the cam never seem to wear much.

I agree that the cam bearings should be replaced in every overhaul. You can rent a cam bearing driver. I have a homemade on that I use. Be sure to align the holes in the bearing with the oil galley.

Mic. the camshaft to make sure of a proper fit. A service book will tell you what they should measure.

You are already in there and you can see they are worn.  They do not cost much either, pretty much a no brainer to me.  They do NOT get better with time.

I guess the question I need to ask is I see AGCO says that the bearings are a number xxxxxx and that's the original bearing but they have been replaced with #xxxxxa, which is .025 undersized , this I figure is for wear on the camshaft journals. Now the places I want to buy them from tell me that they are selling bearings that are aftermarket replacement for part # xxxxxx they do not say state they are part xxxxxa if you follow me if my journals are worn I have to have the .025 undersized right? I am not sure with what I'm buying

If you use under size use loctite and mark bearing to block so you can see if they turn while installing cam.    MACK

I think I've messed up in my measurements ...I ordered original bearings set.
