Subject: Removing WD45 hand clutch pivot pin

  This is probably old hat for many of you.  I had to remove the pivot pin on the hand clutch of a WD45 as it was badly worn.  After removing the side rail and the hand clutch lever, I drilled a hole in the end of the pivot pin and tapped it for a 3/8 stud.  I then screwed the stud in the hole.  Next I took some gears and collars from an old WD45 transmission that would slide over the pivot pin and used them as spacers.  Then I fined tuned the length with washers.  I put the nut on the stud and tightened it with my impact wrench.  Turned an awful job into a slick one.  Thanks.

I've never removed that pin, but that sounds like a pretty slick way to do it! Thanks for sharing it.

Good thinking on pulling the pin. I had one worn really bad so I welded and ground it smooth. Then sized a new bushing in the handle pivot.
 The other one starter out well but is not so good now. It had started wearing in the case.
I made a pin and tried to drill the case. I did not get a good press fit and now have a leak.
How far are you going on the tractor? Break and clutch pivot rod and pivot points are usually next on the list. Feels real good when these pedals and hand clutch are tightened up!

  I bought this tractor because the sheet metal was really nice and it had decent  tires and rims.  The pedals and had clutch were the sloppiest that I have ever seen.  I had nice pedals and hand clutch on the shelf so there is no slop in any of them now.  When I am done this will be a nice WD45.

Should be a nice tractor! When I go look at one, those are the first things I look at, and they usually tell how much work the tractor has done in its life. The one old WD I drug home had good tight pedals and hand clutch. It had set for a long long time due to two bad engines during its life.

Weld a nut to end of shaft, screw slidehammer   into nut and pull it out.    MACK

I did like sugermaker and welded the pin up on the tractor, then filed it back round. Got a good lever and pedals off e-bay, also welded up pedal shaft. Nice to have everything tight, the right brake pedal hit the fender when it came home! The rattle drove me crazy.

Macks' method sounds like it is really easy and effective.  In my case, where the job is being done , I don't have access to a welder and slidehammer.  Thanks for all your comments.

I do the same thing as Mack, but with that said your way the right way with the tooling you have on hand, good job!Clap
