No pictures ... I picked up a set of suitcase weights for my 160 this last week end. I asked the seller why they were being sold. He shared this story ... They had a nice 160 Allis Chalmers. They had used it and parked at the end of the day. Not long after parking it, their dad 86 years old observed the 160 ambling by itself across a field and run into their "big tractor". It caught fire. The dad got to the two tractors and was able to back the 160 off of the other tractor. He saved the "big tractor". He could not put out the fire and got burned himself in the process. The 160 was toast. They scrapped it not thinking the drive train might be salvageable. I surmise they shut the 160 down and did not pull the stop out. These Perkins engines start quite easily and can not be left in gear with the stop in especially on a grade. ------------- D-14, 160, 2 - CAs, 2 - Bs, 2 Gs Roto-Baler, 82S Mower, Rake,444 baler, Kentucky |

Have personaly seen it neighbor always pulled button out shut it down then pushed it back in for next time it was started parked on the slight hill went in for lunch I see the tractor coming across our fiel as I was culivating with no body on it sgop mine run over and cath it the look back twards his house and see him walking twards me we hada good laughf and lesson learned ------------- You can wash the dirt off the body but you can’t wash the farmer out of the heart and soul |

That is why when my tractors get parked in the garage after I use them I always disconnect the battery cables. At least the ones that have batteries. I know it might not help with a diesel if you park on a grade like you say but I have heard of old wiring causing tractors to start themselves. |

If you put the tractor in reverse when parked on a grade you can be pretty sure it won't fire up.Have seen Detroits run backwards though. |

| During my work tenure at west plains implement, it happened twice. One time after everyone was gone except for one salesman and his customer, they were standing outside the building, and a tractor self started and started coming accross the lot towards them. Salesman got it shut down with no harm done. Another time, during the peak of the day an international articulating 4X4 started itself right in shop, but was luckily in neutral. We all heard it start, and just assumed that someone was working on it. After it had been running long enough that it had us all just about smoked out, and we went to chew someone out for running it so long inside, there was nobody there. Never had been. Odd. Darrel |

All the sudden I like my habit of shutting off the gas and parking my tractor in neutral....even though my B probably won't start without me telling it too.  ------------- '39 Model B Tractors are cheaper than girls, remember that! |

2x I was just thinking the same thing. As to reverse I have accidentally started a deutz that way trying to roll it back off a bunker silo when it stalled half way up. Guess the clutch wasn't adjusted too good at the time weirdest thing I ever say it was just as happy running backwards as normal |

| On my one-sixty, not only do I have to turn the fuel on but have to engage the clutch as there is a safety switch there. Won't start otherwise. Guess I'll maybe start also putting it in neutral, too, when I shut it off. Dave Funny, but as I sit here at the computer, I forget which way I have to move the fuel shut off/on lever (in or out) to turn it on/off, however when I get on the tractor I automatically move it the correct direction! |

we have boats that start or at least crank over quite often when they are left out in the rain uncovered. ------------- I support the development of hybrid automobiles and alternative fuels as I need DIESEL fuel for my ALLIS CHALMERS! |
