Good morning all. I happen to run across two 6140 yesterday. I saw it as I was traveling on an overpass and looked down below. At first I thought it was just an older Kubota but I had to double-check. Sure enough, 6140 and for sale. Here's the thing, he doesn't want much for it. Mechanically it's all there everything seems to work and work well. Aesthetically it needs a little help. It's a little rough on the eyes as far as the hood goes. It has farm wagon tires on the front and a really cool glasspack Cherry Bomb muffler that was butchered on.
I know that there were not many of these built. I'm really toying with the idea of picking it up. I think a little bit of time and some money and it would clean up to be a pretty decent tractor. So with that being said, what's the market for a 6140?

That muffler may be the original. Some of the Japanese captive imports did have a muffler that looked just like a cherry bomb muffler.

I think the only part available for it is a clutch now. The Jap company that built these no longer exist

yes, parts are a problem .  Same for a 1045 MF - it's Mf equiv.  There were 2 6140 builds, one with mechanical assist steering and one with hydrostatic steering.  The first was bad to shimmy down the road, it had a bevel washer thrust kit fix.  If one hits a hole big time it can fracture the steering box.  The later units had a better hydrostatic system. The units had all the features, and more than any tractor today.  Unfortunately TOYOSHIA went belly up , and it is hard to verify but seems someone bought the rights and scrapped them all. (Kubota was one rumor) Anyway there are some grey market parts and more are popping up in salvage yards. We sold over 50 of the units and had almost no problems.  IF water got in the hydraulic systems it would swell the brakes and either changing the oil or machining down the floater plate solved that.  Reverse is synchronized and that is a neat feature.  Too bad - great unit.

9000 seems a little ridiculous. Let's put it this way he wants Offer around 2000. There seems to be quite a bit of parts available yet for this tractor just looking on eBay alone. I'm kind of having a hard time with this one. But it is orange with all the comforts of current tractors

didn't address the price - We bought a  900 hour  one at a govt sale, repaired , painted, tested and sold with the condition parts were an issue for $3,900.00  Most go for much less than that; they average $2,000-2,500 in good running condition.

I would have to think long and hard on that one, depending on parts availability alone and the actual unit numbers built dictating your chances of finding salvage units.
Passed on one a few years back and it was cheap, very cheap.
Have actually stayed away from the 5040's and 5050's for the same reason, and I could have gotten a smokin deal on a 5050 MFD from my own brother just four months ago.
Seems not many of the A-C imports in our area but you may find more up there.
