Just a quick question: Are parts still available for theses older pumps? I'd think that O rings would be. I'm just thinking ahead to know what to plan for.
I remember dad had to have his reworked due to years and years of use that it wore the end of the pins down and consequently couldn't get a full flow to raise the header. I've got a complete setup with the tank that's been setting awhile off of the combine and I want to rehab it to use on my Sears garden tractor for a hydraulic lift on my 3 point, if it's even a viable solution. I might have to change the pulley on the shaft if that big one makes the pumping too slow. Thanks. Jim

parts can still be looked up on Agcopartsbooks i just checked.
I would assume the o-rings would be generic and no big deal but if the valve body or valve spools are worn out that could be problematic, but you would have to call and find out.

You might be better off using a power steering pump off old car but ANY hydraulic system can be messy...control valve for up-dn, cylinder, hoses and of course the pump. Recently fabbed up a 'johnny bucket' style loader and the $500 for cylinders and hoses kinda choked me ! You might want to consider using a 'linear actuator', a self contained motor/lift unit. Most are slow BUT only two wires to switch then 2 to battery(through a fuse). Clean install and clean operation. Price depends upon two factors, lift capacity and speed. Do the 'math'..cost out a comple hydraulic system from pulley,pump,hose,etc... to a linear actuator system ( actuator,switch,fuse). Odds are real good electric will win. 3pt systems don't need to be fast.....or travel far...
just ideas

Early Gleaner A's had a Vickers vane pump, later used a gear pump. Probably the best bet would be to get replacement pump.

our Gleaner A serial number 14760 had what they call a van pump o-rings were easy but the little fin like blades were wore out that was 35 years ago after rebuild worked well

Thanks for the input guys. Jay, I'm with you as I had looked for/at the linear actuators before awhile back here locally and wasn't finding anything that would work in the configuration that I needed and that got me to thinking out of the box - so to speak. The one that came on it was shot and is unusable from years of sitting out in the weather before I got this tractor with a mower, rotospader, and heady duty home made 7 tine chisel. It had a fairly recent/new 13hp Honda on it as well. Upon looking online after I had posted this, I found one that has the configuration needed for a little over $100 and it'll work just fine since it raises .59" / sec. After the original rear turf treads wouldn't hold air anymore, I put on ag tires and it already had new turf tires on the front. I've since picked up a disc, plow, and lister for the 3 point to go with the chisel and rotospader. Hmmm, now what can I rehab this hydraulic pump for use on???? Home made log splitter?  Yeah! That's it!
