Can anyone clarify if these are Gemmer steering boxes. I have couple of these and someone needing one. Also, are Gemmer boxes better than Ross or are they about the same. Anything special about them? I've never been in a Gemmer box. Rebuilt several Ross boxes.   ------------- Can't fix stupid |

The Gemmer boxes are a better and stronger designed steering box. The simple way to tell the difference is to remove the drag link arm. The Ross has even splines all the way around, the Gemmer box has 4 wide splines at every 90 degrees.

you can look at the side of the gearbox, thru the tool box hole and tell the difference. Dick had some photos on his web page.. The ROSS uses a single pin running aginst a worm gear to turn the wheels..... The GEEMER uses a couple gear teeth running aginst the worm gear to turn the wheels.. harder to wear out two TEETH compared to one PIN.. you also have to know if the box is for a B, C, or CA... there are differences. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |
