New to the forum and came up with an issue on my Allis WD that has baffled me. Looking for some ideas to help narrow down the issue. Was out moving snow with it and had been running fine for about an hour. I was getting ready to put it away and driving along (not pushing snow) and there was a bunch of sound like gravel grinding below my feet. The tractor coasted to a stop. Still running fine and hydros working. Regardless which gear I put it into, zero movement. Still heard faint gravel/grinding noise and maybe rolled forward an inch but definitely not driving. Shut it off and went inside for an hour. Came back out and tried it again. Started up easily and still no movement. My brother showed up and we hooked a chain to it and pulled it over to our shop. (about 100yards) We unhooked the chain and I went to show him what it was doing and it moved fine in both forward and reverse. Brother just rolled his eyes like what have we been doing pulling this thing. I'm confused...any ideas?

Sounds like something in the hand clutch. The PTO and hydraulics will still work even if the hand clutch does not. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. Den ------------- Own 4 wheel 20, 2-5015, 5020 and associated equipment and 2 electric forklifts. |

| pull the battery box and the access plate under it and look at the hand clutch. The brass collar that engages and disengages the hand clutch could be worn. Once the clutch is locked over center it will stay engaged until you unclck it. I took one apart that half the collar was worn off and it would engage sometimes. |

| Drive it with some pressure on both brakes. If it stops, apply each brake one at a time and see if it moves again. MACK |

Update: Finally got a chance to attack this again..(which really means we got more snow and I needed to use it) Anyway, now regardless whether the hand clutch is forward or back/engaged, if the tractor is in gear and I let out on the foot clutch, the tractor drives. Almost like the hand clutch is locked in the back position. I used the tractor for an hour or so and when I was done, I tested the hand clutch again and it still hadn't changed. Regarless whether it is forward or back, it acts as though it is engaged. Does that bring any new ideas to mind for anyone?

| pin come out of the linkage? or brass collar worn out inside. Pull it in the shop, drain the oil so you can see everything, pull the top cover and take a look. get back with us |

Also coulda been a chunk of ice, in the tranny, didja check for water in the tranny? Water gets pretty hard, below 32ºF, ya know...
