I'm going to look at a D15 diesel later today and was curious what they are worth and what to look for. At this time all I know is it runs and has poor tires, I drove by it and the sheet metal is in good condition. The guy want's $1500 for it and for that price I can't hardly pass it up for a little hayfield tractor. Dad has a 15 & a 17 gas so I'm a little familiar with them. Any help is much appreciated thanks.

Get your trailer and cash and go get it. Like Richard said, you wait too long someone else like yourself could drive by and see it and buy it on the spot. Call and tell him your on your way.

I think the last one I saw was mid summer it smoked alot and clearly needed motor work. It was listed at $3500 and sold pretty quickly.   I debated buying it because I would much rather have a diesel to replace the gas I have.
As to the buy it crowd I agree but just be aware that the d17 and d15 diesel is not a cheap motor to rebuild. I am pretty sure they both tend to have the same issues from what I have read here before. If I wanted a diesel to run every day I would probably get something in the number serries

Well I brought it home. It turned out to be a D17, it started right up ran smooth and didn't seem to smoke like it had anything wrong. I tried to get it to jump out of gear and she didn't, so we took her home. It's got a set of pie weights on the rears, what are they worth and does anyone need them I sure wont.

Oh man now I wish it where mine.... you should have had your mask on when you hauled that one off.
Those pie weights are great if you plan on working it at all I would keep them. I have a set on my d17 and it is amazing how well it will pull with them on it.

It is good that it starts and runs.
D 17 diesel have value, but not like D 15 diesel.
Pie weights do help.

Sounds like you got for a reasonable price.

Well I finally have a couple of pictures.

Now I've got to get that darn loader off and it does have a fuel line that drips but it sure runs nice.
Is anyone interested in these wheel weights, or tell me what they are worth. Thanks Jeremiah

Depending on what your intent and expectations are of the tractor and the land conditions in your area, It may be best to leave the weights on. In my big hilly neck of the woods with clay soils and bad winters, a tractor is near useless ,under most applications, unless weighted to the hilt with fluid in the tires too.....

But to answer your question, to the right guy, who is near enough to haul them home himself, those rear pie weights are generally valued up to $50 apiece.

Oh man What a deal!  If I could find a D17 with loader at that kind of price in my neck of the woods I'd be breaking the speed limit all the way there.

Congratulations on the new to you tractor!

I think I'd put some inner tube material around the side of those chains before they eat their way thru the tire.

You may want to flip that chain over so the hook ends on the cross links to the side chain are out and not in tearing up the tire....Dale

Just curious why do you want to sell the pie weights?   I have alot of hills here and my d17 has wheel weights and the tires are not loaded it is much more useful with the wheel weights my uncle told me it wouldn't pulls a load up these hills without the wheel weights the rear tires would just hop and slip.

I have a D15D II restored with factory 3pt. If I ever sell it I wont listen to any number less than 10K.

Now not to say one running in working condition couldn't be had for less. Gas ones in my area typically bring 3500 give or take. To find one that is not a gear jumper is the key

None of this probably matters being you posted pics and actually have a 17D lol......

The loader, chains and weights are coming off right away. I've got a nice 200 with a westendorf so I don't need another loader. As far as the weights go I'd have to drive 20 miles to find a hill in my neck of the woods. The tractor will be used in the hay field, my 11yr old son is going to mow with it and with our sub irrigated meadows we don't need the extra weight. Most of the time you need duals on your bailing tractor and big flotation tires on the baler.

That makes total since. Just wondered I didn't want to see someone sell a set then turn around and look for a set of weights mid summer.
