This year I have encountered a bunch of tractors with malfunctioning 3pt hydraulic
systems. Won't go up, won't go down, or too slow in either direction, draft response wacky. This is all brands, A/C, JD, Ford, IH. I think the position/draft control valves get dirty, corroded and stick. To make it worse, those types of valves seem to always be
custom. Not a generic industry type valve. So no parts, and not so much knowledge out there for repair.
Would changing the fluid every year stop future problems?

It should.. I've been thinking I should recycle my fluids through a filter just to get some of the 'sludge' out. I know if I just let it sit in a 5 gallon pail for a few days there's a layer of very fine 'particulates' on the bottom of the pail, and cleanliness is what hydraulics NEEDS.

Hydraulics are good for like a loader or remote cylinder. The simple spool valve. But for servo control type stuff, I don't know.
In my time operating large machine tools I have had two electro-hydraulic servo valves stick and result in machine runaway. One "attacked" me. The machine was about 13 years old.
So one of the tractors I saw this summer was a 160 (like mine), the 3pt arms were missing, I ask why. They said the 3pt system didn't work, so they removed them. They just use the drawbar now. Another was a JD 830 (the little 3cyl one),relegated to pulling the wagon.
