So we've all heard the stories of high hour tractors of other colors. I'm just curious how many on the forum here could testify to how high Allis diesels can go without a rebuild. I'm interested as I haven't heard much at all on this and haven't lives long enough to see my own go high. | I have an early 80's 433I power unit on an irrigation pump that has right at 10k hours. Put new rod and main bearings @ 6400 hours back in 2002. Have rebuilt the water pump several times and replaced the turbo. Also have put on a used exhaust manifold, they like to crack. Also new nozzle tips. Other than that the clyn. packs are still original. It runs hard but the irr. pump only requires 65 HP. Uses maybe 1.5 gallons of oil every 200 hrs. I plan to keep it in service. Mike |

| Have seen 7060 with 15000 hours on it using FS 15w40 oil. Motor never touched. Was traded for a 8070 and I lost track of it. |

| Have a 7060 that was bought new in 76, has clocked over 11000 hours, no work on motor other than waterpump, injectors and new turbo.Transmission has never been touched or split. Oh and it uses no more oil than it ever did new. |

| I have a customer that has an 8030 with 5 original hole in it Has about 11000 hours on it. Does not start good but still running. He said it burnt a piston and they just replaced that hole probably 15 years ago Same customer has 6080 with at 10000 that has never been touched |

We have a 1960 D-17 diesel that before we rebuilt it the tech showed 9000 something hours but Dad can't remember when the tach stopped working. Been in our family since new and the only thing grandpa had to do to it was put a new head on in the early 80s when it cracked. Other than that it had never been overhauled. Buddy of mine has a 7060 that has over 17000 hours. Finally they rebuilt the engine last year. Sleeves still had the cross hatching visible in them. If you take care of the tractor, she will take care of you. ------------- 7095-685I at 255hp, 8070-225HP,8050-210Hp,8030 with 155HP,220 with 670T engine with A-pump, 7580, 185 with 140HP, 2-6080's,6070, S4 D17,wd45,CA,st34 agco, S1 D17 with 3500MK2 |

| all depends on how they are taken care of. any brand will fail prematurely if it doesn't have good upkeep and regular service. I know, I've seen a lot more AC engines with longer time on them than other brands. just observing in our area thru the years, generally green tractor need their first overhauls about 5000 hours area, IH about 6000 hours area, and AC 7000-7500 hours area. I've also seen all brands have 10,000 + hours on them before first overhaul. I've also seen 50-70 year old tractors of all brands that have never had an overhaul (and no hour meters), might be safe to say they might have 20,000 + hours on them....but who knows? |

I know its not a diesel but we have a WD in the family that my grandpa bought when it was just a few years old and it was his main tractor for many years plowing, running a roto-baler and all-crop because of its live power. He said it had the valves done once but estimates that since its last rebuild of the bottom end, just based on how many years ago it was and how much it was used each summer, it is probably at least 15,000 hours. Great old tractors. My dad still has it on the farm and I now have one of my own as my work tractor and wouldn't mind owning more if I find a good deal on another. |

| I have a Perkins in a 170 with 9650 hours with no known work, but my grandpa had a 185 with loader that was rebuilt at 2000 hours and the dealer said the oil rings were in upside down? and parked in a shed with a little over 2500 because reverse is the only gear that stayed in. |

| rebuilt a 200 with 27000 original hours, had a bad head on it from the factory Allis Chalmers replaced the head when it had 200 hrs on it, otherwise untouched, it had spun a bearing at this point. Same guy had a 210 with 17000 hrs had a new clutch, and a water pump. |

| We have a 7030 that has 13000 on it and it has never been touched..7060 has 22200 on it and it has been rebuilt once...have clutched them and torque limintered them both several times over the years....the 7030 has been set at 160 hp since the day it was new and the 7060 has been sitting around 220 its entire life |

| I know of a few One Eightys that have over 12000 hours on them , were in all farming details, 4 bottom plows , 12 ft discs during planting time , then the main hay tractor in the spring never missed a beat, a couple are still going strong |

My 8070 went 8000 hours untouched. had not been for dandeline fuzz it wouls still be going....

Our neighbor has a 200 witch we figure has approx.68000 hours it had run every day at least 3-4 hours every day since it was new. I did the last overhaul about ten years ago it was overhauled 3 times but the block was getting bad-leaking around the sleeves so we put a combine engine in it. In the summer most days all day long.But it will jump out of 3rd gear the trans has never been touched.The farmer that owned it pastaway 3 years ago cattle were sold so now the 200 just sits but its done its share of work. ------------- turbocharged |

| I have a customer that has a 6080 with over 9000 hrs on original motor. Even though it's not diesel, I have a 180 gas we've owned since nearly new, we are over 10,000 hrs on the motor, had a valve job once! |

Wow! I've heard of some pretty high hour engines, but some of these tractors you guys have mentioned are truly a stalwart testament to the Allis Chalmers engineering and design. They ran with the best of the other brands and are still going strong today. The legacy lives on. Im amazed at some of these hours on tractors. Ive heard of a few with 13000 and not been. Most any Allis around has had the engine gone through by 5000 hours. Most are treated like crap. Most guys are proud of thier red and green stuff and if they have an Allis, its out back in the weeds or doing the dirty work with oil change intervals. Ill get called a liar, but I've heard my father say "you dont have to change it, just keep adding oil". ------------- 8070FWA,7080 BlackBelly, 7045,2 200s,D19,D17,G, WD,45,UC,7 AC mowers and lots more! back in the late 60's grandpa toured a vegetable farm in Michigan as part of some dealer training and said they were getting extrodanairy hours out of tractors (like 10,000+) before overhaul because they always stayed warm. always plugged in when not running ------------- 2001 Gleaner R42, 1978 7060, 1977 7000, 1966 190 XT, 1966 D-17 Series IV and 1952 WD and more keep my farm running! |
