I have a hydraulic fluid leak on my WD from somewhere on the traction booster. I tightened the drain plug about a half turn and it isn't that much better. It feels wet about half way up on the outside. Are there any usual problems or seals I should check? Can you give a little more explanation on what you mean by "traction booster"? Could be several places on the hold valve, or hydraulic pump. Best to clean up with break clean or similar and get it dry. Then see where it starts getting wet again. |

I guess the decal on the tractor that showed the hold valve confused me. That is where the leak is from. There is a drain plug on the bottom that was leaking but it was loose. I got a half turn on it and it slowed things a little. Now it seems like it is coming from the lower portion of the side of the pump. There several places it could be leaking from most places mean you have to pull the pump. It's Likely leaking from several places. Pull the pump 1. I would guess that it's leaking from the gasket between the pump and the torque tube, which mean pulling the pump. 2. There's 2 seals for the control shafts that could be leaking. 3. Gasket between the Control housing and pump 4. Gasket on the right side of the pump with the adjustment knob Don't need to pull off the pump 1. The hose connections into the hold valve on top. 2. Between the pump and hold valve. Only need to pull the hold valve 3. (Not Likely) 4 check valves on top. These have a copper washer and could need tightened. There is a 5th check valve on the left side. If you never had one off before, removing and reinstalling the pump is probably a 4 hour job, but not terribly difficult. If you do this, get the Allis service manual first. It will tell you everything you need to know. |

Likely from the side levers. There is an o ring if you take the top valve off that leaks too. I am working on my second wd rebuilding the pump. It is pretty easy if you take the side rail off. Seals for the levers are hard to pry out. I ordered the seals from Napa for six bucks each. Ago is expensive for all of the seals and gaskets. Make sure you take a picture of the pump when you take it apart so you can remember how it goes back together. |
