Just got a replacement three position light switch for the WD Allis.  I am still using the original 6 volt generator with a cutout.  How many ohms should the light switch resistor on a WD measure?  I thought it would be 2 ohms because you want about a 3 amp charge.  The new one measures .5 ohms.
I have had this tractor for 18 years and finally decided to fix the switch.  Used it all these years just pulling out the switch for high charge for about 30 minutes each time I used it since it did not charge with the switch all the way in.  When I opened up the console the original resistor was missing and the wiring was 'interesting'.Ouch

It doesn't work that way, 51'. That resistor limits the field current. It is not a current limiter or voltage regulator. It should work as it is.

The OEM resistor used on the original Delco switch is rated at 3.0 Ohms. When all the way in, the Gennie should be putting in approx. 3 amps to the Battery at around 400-450 rpm. Once pulled out to the second position, the resistor is bypassed, Headlights come on, and the ground increased which increases the charge to about 5-7 amps depending on where the third brush is located. Third position is no lights/high charge. Charge should remain the same around 5-7 amps to the Battery.... HTH
