Hey all,
We are in need of a turbo for the fixer upper C2 Gleaner turbo diesel, I think the turbo is fine, but the exhaust housing is cracked up really bad.
I checked the number on Agcopartsbooks.com and got the part number for the whole turbo, and then searched for it on ebay, and many of the listings say D19, 190xt, 7000, 7010, 7020. Surely this is not correct is it?
If I could use a turbo off some 301 application like an early L or M, that would be great, but I doubt that would be correct.
Any info appreciated, Thanks!

Original turbo is a ray jay. I don't know the number off hand but there are still quite a few floating around. New parts are scarce.

What year(s) did they have a turbo on the D-262? I had never seen a turbo on one the years (68-79) that I worked at Harvey.

D19's and C2 Gleaners which may have been out of production by 68....I don't know.

When I was looking for a turbo for my D19, I found a local diesel shop that could rebuild my Rayjay but it was awfully expensive. I ended up ordering one from A&I. It was a little different, I had to modify the oil lines but everything else was the same. The replacement turbo used 2 flange mounts for the oil lines where the Rayjay had threaded fittings.
I do think the D19, 190xt, 200, and 7000 shared the same turbo.

They are retrofitting Garret TO4B's to the older ones that used the Rajay. A much more common, less expensive turbo.

the d262t D19 engine was of course built in '61,62 and on the CII up until '67. This was in the infancy of small displacement engines tubocharging. The TRW unit (Thompson, rayjay) changed models and the unit was replaced thru parts by the same unit as the XT. The OEM turbo was slightly smaller as to A/R ratio - but not enough to matter. To4 b 80 w/.69 A/R exhaust is what replaces it. The boost on a D19 was 10 psi or less - if past conversations were remembered correctly the CII had a rated load of 2200 at 10 psi boost.

The original Rayjay on my 190XT had gone south sometime before I bought it. They are no longer available and parts are very hard to get (although some members have them), so I switched to an A&I unit, had to change over all of the oil lines as well. Got my oil lines from a local junkyard that was parting out a 200.

I was going to mention the thompson turbo charger was also on d-19s.
I have done the CII combine engine conversion as it is the same diesel engine from what I could research.
Im sure purists may not like that??
But its the same engine. I think the only difference once you convert the coolant system to stock, is an engine identification plate on the block.

Do you have your old bad turbo? If so, is the exhaust housing any good? I am confident the turbo is OK, just needs the exhaust housing.
Thanks!

Thanks for the offer, but that really needs to go on a nice D19, this C2 may not ever get fully restored, just fixed up to field ready status, so IMO it would be a waste of a NOS unit.
Plus, its likely out of budget. :)
Thanks!

how many different Rayjay turbos were used over the years? I know we have some Ms with Rayjays that I could swap if they are not different.

the engine plant spec'd either the rayjay (Thompson) or AR - most tractors had .69 A/R exhaust housings on tractors except on the higher hp 301s in the 7020 which used a .58 A/R housings. Many of the lower rpm 301's on gen sets and power units had the smaller housings as well. The lower A/R # increased the boost. We found some combines had the smaller housing . NOW through parts these are not available as about the only thing affordable is the TO4B80 AiResearch. The same occurred on the 426 using the larger Rayjay or the TO4B90 with the .96 A/R with some oem units using the .8 A/R
housing. The higher output 670's all used the TO4 w/.96 with a different housing outlet.
Harvey matched the turbo to the application - parts did not follow the lead due to expense and went with the panty hose theory - one size fits all.. I have never found a chart of turbo's = only discontinued or superseded part #'s to a generic unit.

I've got a couple of old Rayjays, both of which have issues. I could try and dig them out of the parts pile if somebody needed something off of them.
