How does the non turbo 190 compare to the XT with the turbo? The Nebraska test shows about 20 hp less. I will not be doing any tillage with it, just hay. Would it be worth putting a turbo on it?

16.4 PTO HP difference to be exact. The One-Ninety at 77.2 HP burns 5.4 gallons per hr fuel. The One-Ninety XT makes 93.6 HP and burns 5.7 GPH fuel.....only .3 more per hr. The XT at the same burn rate of 5.4 GPH makes 84.5 HP. Turbo would add 7 plus HP and use no more fuel. In the drawbar tests the tractors weighed the same, had the same size rear tires and the XT pulled 1837 pounds more !!

Do you NEED 20 extra hp for haying? What size is your haying equipment?

To make your tractor perform line an XT, you need more than just a turbo. You need everything that goes with it: Larger air cleaner, oil lines for the turbo (hard to find - ask me how I know), engine oil cooler and larger fuel injector tips.

It would be cheaper to sell your 190 and buy an XT.

What do you mean by "just hay"? We use to pull a square baler and wagon with a WD and it worked fine. Large round balers are a horse of a different color.

I wouldn't worry about turboing it, it should make a fine hay tractor, maybe tune up the injection system a little, you,'ll be happy how it does

A guy not far from me used to pull a Vermeer round baler with a 1650 Oliver. That's about 55 hp. Granted, no hills. I used to bale with my straight 190 and it worked fine, I just didn't like the location of the manual PTO shift. It was an early 190 with the shift knob so close to the floor you could not have gloves on to grab it, otherwise it worked fine.

Without changing the injection pump setting the not only would the turbo add a few ponies, it would improve fuel economy a little too.

Should I reset the timing for the turbo engine and also turn the pump up a little?

The correct answer is to save up your money and just buy a 190XT to go along with the 190. :)

Last time I checked its more fun to leave tractors hooked to their respective implements and run each one than mess around hitching an un-hitching. :)

But seriously, if you ever go to sell it, leaving it original is best. ordering parts for a half converted tractor is not fun.
