My Son is restoring a 1961 D17, have heard conflicting answers for type of fluid used in power steering reservoir in front of rad? We don't have manual, suggestions would be appreciated,
Thanks
Paul

Seems the general consensus around here is Universal Tractor Fluid.  I run ATF, but I've been mildly chastised for it, never had any problems.

My Dad bought a brand new D-17 IV and it had Dexron from the Factory. It continued to have Dexron for several years and was always dirty around the front support from that water like oil seeping thru every gasket and seal there was. Changed to Universal Hydraulic oil and that seepage all stopped. Either will work and when you already have hydraulic fluid, why not keep it simple ??

I put in hytrans once and it kept foaming. Old AC mechanic told me use ATF and been using it ever since. Works great
