Didn't Allis build a new factory just to make these in Terra Haute Indiana but never really got it up to full production?

Yup. I was at the Planes of Fame museum in Chino CA this summer.
They got a B-17 project in work. I was chatting with a volunteer guy there, I mentioned I like old tractors, have some Allis-Chalmers.
Before you know it I am looking up at the turbocharger. He said spin this, it's 60 years old and smooth as silk. Allis knew how to build 'em.

There's one of them at the EAA air museum in Oshkosh WI, very neat piece.

they also made belt driven superchargers, I cant remember which aircraft they were in. I think GE and Ford made similar ones for the same application.

A small company in Dodge city KS repurposed them for portable bin fans, so we see them occasionally, we only bid on them if they are allis though. :)

If you need parts for your Gleaner, we are parting out A's through L2's, so we may be able to help.

Just as an example the Wright R-1820-97 on the B-17 developed 1200HP from 9 clyinders totaling 1823 Cubic Inches of displacement.  Somehow Creston, I don't think the little SP100 would even turn the wheel! Wink
