Hi fellow AC members I am in need of a clutch throw out part for my 1941 AC Mod M Crawler . It has a screw on plate that goes into the clutch and then two long bars that go against that plate .Sorry for lack of numbers . Parts manual in mail and on way . The two bars go to a casting that connects to the throw out collar. and has the two shafts for the yoke coming out each end .Its that throw out collar casting that I need . I will post part number as soon as I learn that .any leads would be helpful . I have thought about cutting that broken part out then casting a new one that comes apart in two parts in silicon bronze then I may avoid pulling the whole tractor apart to install the part . I do have a foundry so that may be a possibility .Also could use one track set or good track chain 31 links .other side good . I did find a whole other tractor with all the stuff I need but I don't want to reduce it to parts and kill yet another tractor from being restored.

Years ago when I needed my M pressure plate rebuilt I took it to Buffalo Clutch. He said mine was a Rockford. I'm telling you this because the clutch parts for many pieces of heavy equipment are NOT specific to a particular make and model. I know that places like Buffalo Clutch are disappearing but many are still around. A truck supply center like Fleet Pride or even NAPA might have your part. Take the assembly to the store and/or post a picture and someone might be able to recognize the generic part.

You wanted to avoid pulling the whole tractor apart. On a model M you have to "pull the whole tractor apart" With the blade removed you support the motor, unbolt the motor and move the back end away from the motor. Have you done this already?

No not yet its still outside .Still want to balance out all that with casting the part that would come apart in halves .I think the clutch plates are okay .The part does not look like it would be a very hard casting .If I end up pulling it apart I would wait until I get a better track . one side is in great shape the other track chain has very badly worn bushings with some pins pulling apart . To do the job normally the tracks need to be un pined and laid out . I am guessing the master pin still needs to be part drilled or ground out on the end . I am also guessing the master pin gets hammered over on the end to reassemble . looks like I could stand one more 3rd catalog repair manual , got the operator's man and the parts man so far. Opp man shows to put large boards to support motor and pull apart . Have you done this ?Still looking for the needed part and it appears to be fairly scarce . If I found one in a wrecking yard they would have to pull the tractor apart to get the part . that would cost a fortune and would they even do it . still checking leads buffalo is studing on it I sent them diagrams . it is a 12 inch clutch .

you are after the shifter yoke that has little arms at 1 end and connects to the throw out arm on the clutch and the two cams on the pressure plate?.

I did split my M. You back the machine away from the motor. The track does not have to be split. I used a concrete block as a fulcrum and pried up on the grouser that is on the front idler. The entire machine moves quite easily. If you had a dolly for the motor you could do it backwards by moving the motor away from the machine.

It is really quite easy, you just have to watch that you don't drop anything (LIKE THE MOTOR) post pictures.

Good news that gear place came up with the part I need . also getting some other parts . and they are checking for track chain and some more missing stuff .I am not thrilled about the motor it probably froze and cracked out the side . it has a steel plate over the whole side with lots of non factory machine screws holding it on . the crankcase oil has water mixed with oil the guy I got it from thought it needed a head gasket I probably did it the hard way . should have gotten the one at the wrecking yard that is good and sold my everything bad one ....got it pretty cheap and he moved it 30 miles for fifty bucks .Many thanks for that leed and the incouraging word about the change out .one manual says the track has to come off . how can the transmission move back with out the the track coming off ?
